Princeville Flood Matthew Recovery

Donation protected
My Name is Eddie L. Pitt and I was born in Princeville, North Carolina . Princeville was the first town chartered in the US by freed black slaves.

I sit here today with a heavy heart as I get the continued updates on the rising water in my home town. My mother is safe but there are so many tragedies associated with Hurricane Matthew.

In my spirit I can feel much of the pain and fear of the apparent losses that are being experienced.

In 1999 Princeville was completely submerged by Hurricane Floyd for an entire week and it changed the entire town, new people moving in and many of the original residents moving out. When I go back home now it is obvious to me that a lot has changed and unfortunately much of it for the worse. It is almost impossible to recover and be made whole again after such devastation.
Princeville issues evacuation for entire town as ‘major flooding’ is forecast
Since Hurricane Matthew I have not actually been able to just move on as if everything is fine, I seem to be somewhat paralyzed and in wait for the next update. Hoping that the flood waters would not devastate our small town again. But today what we wished would not happen is happening as I prepare this crisis assistance appeal to you.

The reason we need help is because in this area many are financially challenged and the transition through this tragedy will be overwhelming. When some folks can say OK I'm going to pack up and go stay with a friend or relative or I will pack and check in at a hotel, realize that is a privileged that a lot of folk here don't have. Imagine being broke and waiting for your next pay check when something like this occurs. You had enough food, gas and somewhere to live until the next check but this disruption brings major hardship to a family and the pure uncertainty of these moments are truly enough to send someone over the edge. Especially if they were already at the edge.

More than 450 Princeville residents were living in Red Cross emergency shelters
So I say to my family and friends in Princeville; “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose". Not some things, but all things.

While we wait on the Lord, let's give Him some praise!

We need this funding as soon as possible. Folk have no homes to return to, cars under water, clothes, food, and mothers need to hotel their minor and infant children until such a time other relief can be found. Along with the many other challenges wrought by such devastation.

This outreach would mean the world not only to me but also the 100's of displaced friends and family in Princeville. Many who had just began to feel a release of the pressure from the last hurricane (Hurricane Floyd) which destroyed the entire town of Princeville.

Be encouraged my family and friends and continue to trust in "Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy". "In all these things we are triumphantly victorious due to the one who loved us".

Any help will be greatly appreciated
