Lung Transplant Support for Dale

Donation protected
My husband, Dale, was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), a predictably unpredictable lung disease with no cure.  We have been living with this disease since December 9, 2013.   The disease is progressive and initially, few effects of this disease were present. Since February 2018, Dale's condition has been getting worse.  He is on constant oxygen and completing routine tasks (getting dressed, brushing his teeth), is exhausting.  He is unable to go for a walk around our neighbourhood, or go hiking with our dogs (a past highlight of our life). After completing am intensive week of tests to assess his candidacy  for transplant in June 2019, Dale was deemed suitable.  He officially went on the transplant list on October 11th, 2019.  Now our schedule is overwhelming filled with physiotherapy, tests, and appointments.  A requirement of being on the transplant list is that Dale requires a "support person" to attend his pre-transplant physiotherapy session 3 times a week.  We travel from Burlington to Toronto; 114km round-trip which requires setting aside half a day to attend his 1.5hr session.  The time demanded to accommodate his physio, and other appointments is high.  Some weeks we can be at Toronto General Hospital 4-5 days. Dale's condition continues to progress.  In order to support him, I have had to take a leave from work.  Financially, this is going to be difficult. We are asking for your financial support to help offset the costs that will be incurred throughout this journey. Employment Insurance will only offer me "up to 55%" of my pay for a maximum of 6 months.  Since I am not employed full-time, the Compassionate Care Leave might only amount to $400/week.  This will barely be enough.  Your support will allow me, and Dale, to rest easier knowing that generous, kind people have offered some financial support to help us through this stressful time. The timeline is uncertain.  Dale could get his transplant next week; next month; next year; or never.  We are hoping and praying for the call sooner than later.  We believe that he will get a transplant. Thank you so much.
