Pregnant Fighting Cancer: Support the Koser's

Donation protected
Andrew and Kristine Koser, both 31, have just begun their lives together. Kristine completed her residency in the summer of 2018 and currently works as an OBGYN, while Andrew works as a chef for the Bartolotta restaurants. Recently, Kristine and Andrew found out that they would be expecting their first child in November. They were excited by this news and their long bright futures ahead of them.

A couple of months later, Kristine went to the hospital with severe nausea, constipation, and abdominal pain. What could have been a routine exam or typical doctor visit, instead, turned their worlds upside down.

Unexpectedly, Kristine was admitted to the hospital with a large bowel obstruction and within 24 hours, she underwent emergency surgery to remove a large portion of her colon. On May 1st, Kristine and Andrew found out the obstruction was caused by a stage 3 colon cancer. After 10 days in the hospital, Kristine finally got to continue recovery at home.

Kristine is on a special diet and, as such, will likely not be able to eat food brought to their home as gifts. She will be undergoing chemotherapy as soon as she has recovered from her first surgery. Chemotherapy will affect her ability to physically function or operate on a day-to-day basis for the good part of the next year. Aside from side effects like severe nausea and poor appetite, this medication will cause neuropathy (numbness and tingling) to the point where she will have to wear gloves to open the refrigerator without pain. Once baby Koser is delivered (likely pre-term), she will undergo more chemotherapy and will require another surgery. The combination chemotherapy, neuropathy, monitoring the pregnancy, and another surgery will prevent Kristine from returning to work full time for the foreseeable future.

Baby Koser is doing well at this time and after making it through this scary surgery, we know the baby is a fighter.

Flowers and food have been abundant and greatly appreciated. We would love to continue helping Kristine, Andrew, and baby Koser on their health journey as much as possible by providing any donations to help offset the costs of their medical bills. There is no contribution too small. Prayers, positive thoughts, and good vibes are greatly appreciated as baby Koser makes their way into this world to these two loving parents.

Andrew and Kristine want to thank everyone who have already reached out and kept them in their thoughts and prayers. It did not take them very long to learn how big their community is, and they are thankful for all the support being shown to them at this time.
