Precious Percy Needs Your Help

Tax deductible
When Our Pal's Place goes into the county shelters, we first look at dogs and cats who are in jeopardy of being killed or need the most help.  Percy is a youngster who found himself in the county shelter because he was a stray. The first picture released by the county of Percy was  heart wrenching (for this reason, the picture we received is posted as the first "update" below for those who do want to see.)  A dog who is this bald and malnourished is clearly the subject of neglect as this does not just happen overnight. Our Pal's Place knew this boy needed help and immediately went to meet him. Because he was a stray, however, he had to sit in the county shelter for a 7 day holding period to give his people a chance to find him per county law.  The day Percy's holding period expired and he was available for rescue, Our Pal's Place was there to get him out. Percy is a young boy who has a zest for life even though he was obviously neglected by his prior people. At Our Pal's Place, Percy is being fed high quality, salmon based food with fish oil supplements to help his skin heal. Percy is enjoying a soft bed, toys and the attention provided by our care-giving volunteers! In spite of having previously been let down by humans, Percy’s happy and upbeat personality shines through.

We are now raising money for Percy's upcoming veterinarian care. Usually this money comes from our Save-A-Heart fund which is used exclusively to help critical care and heartworm positive dogs. The challenge is we are currently treating 8 … yes, EIGHT … heartworm positive dogs and the fund is depleted.  The donations made to this fundraiser will go exclusively to helping our precious Percy. (We are a volunteer based organization so there are no administrative costs that some fundraisers have.) If there is funding remaining after Percy is healthy, it will be placed into our Save-A-Heart fund to help the heartworm positive dogs we are currently treating. From Percy, "I was so hungry. My tummy grumbled and grumbled, but no one fed me. I started losing weight and felt weak and afraid. As the weather started cooling off, I became cold and found myself trembling at night because I don't have a lot of fur on my body or meat on my bones. Hard to believe, but the best thing that has happened to me was being taken to the county shelter. At least there, I had food and was warm. But, it is a scary place with all of those other dogs and not knowing what was going to happen next. Shortly after I arrived, a kind woman came to see me. I jumped in her lap and gave her kisses hoping she would help me. She told me she would, but I would have to stay in the county shelter first. Each day, I sat at the front of my cell, peering out waiting for her return. Then one day, I saw her walking down the aisle toward my cell, and I knew in my heart that I would be ok. Now, I am safe and have plenty of food. My skin is already feeling better and everyone tells me I am a handsome boy! If you can, please help me become healthy so I can find a home and people who will love me forever!"
