Dafne’s Story
She was diagnosed with breast cancer in October of 2003. She had a lumpectomy to remove the tumor in November of 2003, but unfortunately the doctors soon discovered that the cancer was everywhere in her left breast. She then had a mastectomy at the end of November and started chemo in December.
She remained cancer free until it was discovered in her scar tissue in February 2006. Additional surgery was required to remove both skin and muscle in March 2006. After recovering from surgery she began a long session of chemo in April 2006 and then ended the treatment with radiation in August of 2006.
From 2006 to 2011 she was on Tamoxifen, a drug that helped keep the cancer at bay and allowed her to live a cancer free life. However at the end of 2011 she was taken off of the drug because the drug studies showed it was only effective for five years.
Unfortunately, the cancer returned in 2014 as she was diagnosed with breast cancer in her right breast. It was a tough 2014 that started with a mastectomy, then chemo and lastly radiation. From February to October she was in one stage of treatment or another as she battled the cancer for the third time to get back to her healthy, cancer free self.
Sadly, this battle is still not over. In January discovered that the cancer had metastasized to her liver, spleen and stomach muscle. She is once again back in chemo for five to six months as the doctors attempt to attack and shrink the cancer. This last battle was a surprise to Dafne and all of us that love and support her.
Due to the amount of time she was out in 2014 to battle cancer the third time in her life, her financial reserves are at a low point. Thank you for contributing what you can to aid in the fight. We all want Dafne to focus on winning her battle with cancer without the financial distractions that result from it.
