Hello Everyone,
My name is Samantha, I'm a single mom and I have an 11-year-old son, Samuel. I’m here to share his story with you. Sammy is a melt-your-heart kind of a kid who loves his Grandparents, Tae Kwon Do, computer programming, video games, superheroes, Star Wars, and Legos, he loves to be around people and playing UNO any chance he gets. He hopes to one day become a Video Game Designer! He was diagnosed at 10 years old with a brain tumor. The doctors said that we would have to do a biopsy. During the biopsy, I got a call and the doctors said they felt they should move forward and try to extract the tumor because it looked malignant. After long hours of recovery and tests, the 1st diagnosis was thought to be an Anaphylactic Ependymoma. Sammy went in and did a lumbar puncture and an MRI on February 7th, 2019. The lumbar puncture came back clean but the MRI had a spot they were concerned about. We did wait for the results and in the meantime, got to celebrate his golden birthday on February 11th! A few days later on the 14th, we went to see the doctors at the hospital. The doctors told us that Sammy's tumor isn't what we thought. It was HGNET- High-Grade Neuroepithelial, the doctor said the whole thing is HGNET-MNI-CXXC5 which is a very aggressive cancerous tumor. Sammy will have to go through chemo. He will be doing two cycles so that's 49 days long. At that point in time, we will do an MRI that will tell us what to do next. Regardless of those results, and after the chemo, he will have to do radiation for 6 to 70 weeks. My main focus is to be there for my strong and courageous son, his survival, and to get him the best care possible. As a single mom, the financial burden is really overwhelming and causing even more stress in an already stressful time for our little family. The operation alone did cost over $250,000. and the insurances will not cover much more. I need to raise $300,000.00 which is why I’ve created a GoFundMe. Funds will be used to cover Sammy’s medical expenses, more operations, and any supporting costs that would allow me to take care of my son. Meaning bills, things I won't be able to pay for if I'm not at work 3 days out of the week.
