Filling Our Fermenters!
Hi There, we are Kevin & Melody at Powers Farm & Brewery. Since 2012 we have been growing vegetables, herbs and hops in Fauquier County, Virginia. We've met many of you along the way at the Manassas farmers market, through our CSA, Whiffletree Farm and via local restaurant sales. After ten years of brewing, five years of farming and a year of brewery construction, we are incredibly excited to open our brewery this spring!
Since early 2016, we have been working on adding fresh-brewed beer with Powers Farm-grown ingredients -- hops, herbs, flowers, veggies & fruit from our field. In doing so, we realized a move down the road, to Midland, VA, would allow us to pull the final dream together. We found a beautiful property with great soil and a well built pole barn on site, made out of cedar beams harvested from the back woodlot. As we move into the final stages of an eventful but exciting construction process of converting that pole barn into our brewery and future tap room, beer ingredients -- barley, hops & yeast -- need to be purchased soon for our first five farm brews!
The CSA model -- getting gracious people involved early to allow us to invest in a great season of growing, and who share in the harvest -- has been wonderful in getting and keeping our farm going and a concept that we're excited to extend to our farm brewing (the fruit and vegetable CSA isn't going anywhere either!). In working hard to not only open the brewery, but get our entire farming operation uprooted and moved to the new location, we've had an overwhelming amount of support that has been incredibly energizing.
With license in hand and equipment on site, our goal is to begin brewing in February, with the tap room opening up in April. We are so grateful to get some feedback and can't wait to welcome you!
If you're interested in getting the beer asap, join our Field Beer CSA -- 20 weeks of growler fills from a constantly updating rotation and get a taste of everything in our field. Join the notification list now at our website and we'll send out details soon!
The build out and farm transition has been taxing, and so your support will help us make a full and proper order of malted grains, hops and yeast so we can get all of our fermenters filled immediately, our glasses and growlers ordered, and the field beer CSA up and running asap!
We have some great gifts -- Powers Farm t-shirts , our logo-printed pint glass, growlers and more -- for your donations. We appreciate any support you can give and are looking forward to the next couple of months as we take a step forward and finally attain our dream of opening the farm & brewery. In addition to our go fund me page, you can also support us via our online farm store and CSA offerings. Check out our website and instagram, and visit our facebook page to see great pictures of our farm. Thank you for helping us get the fermentors filled & our long time dream off the ground!
Also for those of you who get t-shirts - I need your t-shirt info please! Please email me your size and address or opt to pickup at the brewery. Thanks!
And things are even going well on construction! We took on our white whale -- the flooring -- over six very long days that concluded yesterday. It started with a good clean, two long days grinding the floor, followed by several coats of epoxy & wax (pay no attention to my crossed feet in the shot below of Mel & Norm). For a bunch of farmers I think we did alright. The rush was to get Andrew & team, our awesome plumbers, on site this week so we can our well water in the building! Water, hops, barley & yeast...almost there!
Thanks again for the support so far, we can't wait to deliver on the gifts and see you all out on the farm this spring. We're shooting for a May opening but stay tuned, we'll certainly need some feedback as we get the brewing system dialed in.
