Smash the MENTAL HEALTH Stigma

‘A Fool’s Paradise’

A Documentary by Belle Kerr and Ariella Jelic

Driven by the gap between the modern and traditional communities within Australia and the ongoing issue of mental health, the desire to create an investigative, feature-length documentary was formed.

Ariella, 21 and Belle, 22 are two Sydney-based friends who have teamed up to busk their way to Kakadu National Park from Sydney. They have created this project to find out how different people define happiness and to help raise awareness for mental health issues.

WHAT?
A challenge set by two passionate, young, Aussie women who were sick of the stigma around mental health and who wanted to encourage people who are suffering in silence to seek help.

The main aim of the ‘Fool’s Paradise’ project is to show exactly how far you can push your body and mind even when you struggle with a mental illness and to prove through their own challenges and investigations how unstoppable we really can be, mental illness or not.

We have decided to not only drive 4000km across Australia, but that any money we need for the trip will need to be made through busking. Budgeting as much as possible, any excess money made will be donated straight back into mental health charities.

WHEN?
2 June - 22nd July, with the aim to premiere the documentary during 'Mental Health Month' in October, 2018.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
We are currently trying to gain sponsorship and are hoping that you might be able to help supply us with some equipment so that we can make this dream a reality and smash that stigma around mental health.

Before any of this can go ahead we need a van, camera, and camping equipment most importantly. We have arrived at $15,000 as the amount that we're going to need to get this documentary onto the road, so to speak. We would be so incredibly appreciative of any amount that you are able to donate, or if you can't, then maybe you could share our story!

Any help at all is appreciated and if we are going to be passing your town on the road, let us know so that we can repay you somehow!

Much love, Belle and Ariella
