What is the Portside ArtsMobile Project
The ArtsMobile Project is an intiative of Portside Arts Center to bring arts integration programming to schools of the River Wards community.

Our Goals
-Making Arts Accessible
-Building Community Engagement
-Increasing Academic Achievement
-Fostering Artistic Habits of Mind

Our Approach
Over a six-month period ArtsMobile's Teaching Artist in Residence partners with classroom teachers to develop engaging and original curricula that authentically meets objectives in both visual arts and academic subjects.

At the conclusion of the six-month Residency Program, teachers will have hands-on experience integrating the arts into their teaching practice. Teachers will also be able to access Portside's resources for educators.

Who we are..
Portside Arts Center   is a 501 3-c non profit community arts center located in Port Richmond Philadelphia. Portside provides visual arts classes for children, teens and adults year round. The arts center impacts the greater Northeast Philadelphia communities where there are few resources of its caliber.

What we do..
The program integrates visual art forms such as printmaking, collage, painting, drawing and sculpture with common core science, literacy and math for 1st to 5th grade students. The ArtsMobile has also designed a social / emotional integrated art program for special populations.

The ArtsMobile development team designed our curriculum to stand apart from typical classroom teaching methods through the use of uncommon materials, tools, and techniques. The ArtsMobile curriculum focuses on processed based learning and exploration. Our program allows students to build knowledge through investigation and collaboration.

Portside believes strongly that our approach will improve student learning by fostering their social, reflective, motor, and creative problem solving skills.

Example: Our math curriculum reviews the basics of fractions through a hands on paper quilt making lesson. The participating students will fold and cut beautiful patterned paper into fourths, eighths and sixteenths then record which fractions they used to design their quilt square. The ArtsMobile teacher shows students examples of traditional quilt patterns and contemporary fiber artists for inspiration.

The ArtsMobile challenges students to think outside of the box by engaging them in a multi-faceted curriculum that intricately combines academics and visual arts. This remarkable curriculum meets both the National Arts Education Association national standards for art education as well as the Pennsylvania common core standards for education.
Leaving a lasting impact

The ArtsMobile project aspires to leave an everlasting impact on the classrooms we visit. The ArtsMobile is designed to have the schoolteacher participate in each art project along side of the children. This allows the teachers to experience and understand the integrated arts curriculum hands on. The ArtsMobile encourages
classroom teachers to continue to use arts integration in their everyday lessons. Our development team created lesson extenders and partnered with other local
organizations to provide inspiration and resources to
participating teachers.

We appreciate your support!
Your donation will help the ArtsMobile continue it's mission and grow into permanent, year-round programming.

Your donation will contribute to the purchase of program supplies, curriculum research, and enable us to reach more students and educators than we could without you.
