Dear family, friends, and to those whom I have yet to meet,

Do you remember a special teacher from your childhood?  Was there an adult who helped you establish your identity, self esteem and understanding of the world? I am a teacher hoping to provide exactly that to today's children. I want to create a space where children learn about themselves, their communities, and the world. I am reaching out to you for support. I need your financial contribution to open my new school for preschoolers. Your donation will go to purchasing supplies, making the space inviting to young learners, towards our scholarship positions and paying rent during the early months before opening! Would you consider supporting this vision?

Portland Play Project will be an ecologically based, family centered and Reggio-inspired preschool in Portland, Oregon. What does this mean you may ask? Let's look closer.

Ecologically based means we study the natural and cultural aspects of our town. We will grow, harvest and prepare food. We will study the native and introduced flora and fauna of our bioregion. We will get to know our neighbors and neighboring small businesses. We will make magic and plant medicine. Students will go on to kindergarten having a solid understanding about where their food comes from and the importance of the interconnections between the people and place they live.

As a family centered school we care about the whole package - child, family, extended family, neighborhood. We know that these connections are most important in a child's life and it is our job at PPP to create community here. We will have pizza parties, neighborhood plant sales and sleepovers (you get the idea). Families will cultivate lasting relationships that will stay with them throughout their child's entire upbringing and beyond.

Reggio-inspired schools are constructivist - one of the things this means is we follow the interest of the child. Other than being ecologically based, we have no set curriculum. Each school year what we study and research will look very different, and this will all depend upon the children that are present, what they love and what they want to learn about.

Now, more than ever, we need to build up and support our local businesses, teach our children about what being kind looks and feels like and maybe most importantly, we all need to learn how to be a little more self sufficient.
As you think about where the spare change in your couch or the holiday bonus may end up, please consider making a small or large monetary contribution to Portland Play Project. You could even give something as little as $15 monthly. We're just getting started, and could surely use your support!!

Donations over $250 will receive a locally crafted Portland Play Project tote bag.

Thank you in advance for believing in me and for taking the time to learn about this project.

Love,
Meg
