Here is a condensed version of Kris and Katie's story...

September 6, 2016: Katie and Kris meet for the very first time. It was the first time they had met in person after talking online for just a couple of days. It was absolutely love at first sight. They were absolutely inseparable from day 1.

November 27, 2016, the Sunday after Thanksgiving: Katie and Kris have just found out they have been blessed with a baby on the way. They are more in love now than they were before. They KNEW this baby was a blessing and they felt so lucky to have the opportunity to become parents together.

Katie finds out that their beautiful baby is going to be a boy. Kris proposes because he’s so ecstatic and they are so in love.

March 26, 2017: Katie is 6 months pregnant with little baby Kollin. Kris and Katie get married and it is the best day of their lives so far. They are so perfect for each other.

July 6, 2017: Kollin Grant Pope is born. He’s perfect in every way. Katie and Kris grow more in love with each other and with their little family every day.

July 26, 2018: Katie and Kris find out that Kris has Stage III Colorectal Cancer. He’s had it for at least five years. It consists of a tumor the size of half a grapefruit inside his rectum. The news is the most devastating. They’ve only been married one year. Will he die? Will it end so soon? Will Katie lose him just after she found him? These questions and more go through their heads.

Ever since Kris has been diagnosed, treatment has moved quickly. He has gone through months of chemotherapy, followed by more long months of chemotherapy/radiation combination. Kris’ pain is unbearable. He’s miserable and uncomfortable and struggling with the modifications that have been made to help him survive this cancer (colostomy bag). Kris has been unable to work due to the fact that his treatments have made him so sick and he’s so weak. He’s relying heavily on prescribed pain medication and he still hasn’t even had surgery.

Kris has a surgery scheduled for Friday June 21, 2019 to have his tumor removed. He will be out of work until at least September depending on how quickly and completely he heals. Katie has been working three jobs since February 2019 just to make ends meet. She teaches and waits tables at Applebee’s and Outback Steakhouse.

On top of all of this, to make matters worse, Katie has found out that she has to have ankle fusion surgery on both ankles ASAP because of a progressive arthritic condition she was born with. The foot doctors need her to stop serving at the two restaurant jobs, but she’s unable to because she’s the only financial provider. This condition can put her in a wheelchair if she doesn’t stop waiting tables and have the surgery. Both of their families have been helping as much as possible, but the reserves are exhausted.

If you feel it in your heart to help this family get through the summer until Katie goes back to school and Kris is able to go back to work it would be greatly appreciated. This young couple has handled more in their two and a half very short years together than most couples handle in twenty. They just need some help through this rough patch because no one deserves to suffer because of circumstances they can’t control. Any donation is appreciated. Thank you so much.

From Katie:

“I love Kris and Kollin with my whole heart. I know that I am doing everything I possibly can to provide for them and take the stress of making ends meet away from my husband. But this seems like an insurmountable obstacle. I know that God has orchestrated our entire relationship, and HE has a plan even when I have no idea what He’s doing. My pride keeps me from asking for help more than I do, but I am only one person. I don’t want to lose everything that we’ve worked so hard to gain in the little bit of time we’ve been together. If the Lord doesn’t lay it on your heart to donate, please don’t feel any guilt or pressure. Prayers are all that we ask. But if the Lord does lay it on your heart to help my family, know that I am probably the MOST grateful person you’ll ever meet, and God promises blessings greater than you’ll be able to receive. Thank you.”
