Hello!

We're a crew looking to make a social realist drama about two estranged brothers who meet for the first time. It will be raw and emotive and visually beautiful.

We will use any funds that we raise to pay for  actors and locations, as well as funding any set design we need as we plan to build a set from scratch. Additionally, we hope to enter the film into festivals which require an entry cost.

Your support will mean that we can make a film we have always envisioned. It has been a film that has been close to all of our hearts and hopefully with these funds we can bring our film from paper to something concrete.

If you donate:
£30 - you will get a special thank you in the credits.

£50 - you will get a special thank you in the credits & a copy of the final film.

£100 - you will get a special thank you in the credits, a copy of the final film and a handwritten letter from the crew expressing our gratitude and a signed copy of our poster.

£500 -  as well as all of the above you will get a personal invitation to the festival screening .

Here is the treatment for the film:

Poison Treatment

Genre - Social realist drama

Log-line - A young man reaches out to his estranged older half-brother in an effort to meet the        father he never knew.

Premise - Two estranged half-brothers meet for the first time, realising that they had very          different opinions of their distant farther. Tyler, who grew up with their father, takes it upon himself to convince Conor, who has never met their dad, that not having him in his life is a blessing in disguise.

Location - Present day, non disclosed run down estate & cafe.

Characters:

Conor:

-       Our protagonist.

-       18-year-old living with his mum.

-       Conor is confused, angry and lost. He is looking for answers to the missing information surrounding his father after being lied to for such a long time. Conor idolises this image of his missing dad and clashes with Tyler when he challenges this ideal.

-       Conor has just turned 18 and from his mother he has learned about his father and brother, Tyler. Conor feels alienated from a whole part of his life and that his dad has been kept away from him, as opposed to the fact that he left by choice. He is taken aback when learning that Tyler has a completely different view of their dad, thinking that he is manipulative and a monster. Eventually Conor realises that Tyler is a broken lonely man from his experiences knowing their dad but he does not completely accept that he is a the monster he is painted to be. He accepts that whilst he may not be the idol he had in mind he still wants to meet him and make his own decision as everyone has decided what he knows up to this point in his life and now he needs to know what his truth is.

 Tyler:

-       25-year-old living on his own small flat.

-       A lonely introvert who is untrusting and bitter, he feels like he is owed something because of his hard upbringing.

-       Tyler has known his father since he was 7 years old after he came back into his life after leaving him for his second family. Due to his fathers alcoholism, Tyler has suffered years of emotional abuse that has slowly worn down his self-confidence and only fuelled his resentment towards his father. Tyler sees Conor’s meeting as his only chance to have a family and so he tries to do everything in his power to create the image of a dangerous monster, which isn’t wrong but he learns that he can’t make decisions for everyone and that their dad is just a man and he has no control over them now their adults.

Jimmy:

-      45 year old living alone.

-      A self-loathing narcissist who is abusive to anyone who makes him feel inadequate.

-      Jimmy is an alcoholic. In the past, he has never cared about anyone other than himself, often putting alcohol before any of his numerous families. Now, however, Conor may be his last chance for redemption.

Summary -

Act 1

-       Conor is en route to meet Tyler whilst a voicemail plays over the visuals. In the voice over we hear Conor explain who he is and asks to meet up with Tyler as he wants to form a relationship with his brother.

-       Both brothers meet for the first time in a greasy spoon cafe where they find out things about each other, connecting with common ground such as a shared love for rap music.

-       Inciting incident: they both realise that they have come to this meeting for different reasons. Conor asks Tyler for their dads information as he would like to meet him, leaving Tyler feeling used and manipulated. Whilst Tyler has come in good faith to expand his family and have the brother he always wanted.

Act 2

-       Conor pushes to find out about his dad, slowly wearing Tyler down, whilst Tyler is reluctant and is more interested in wrapping up their meeting as he feels hurt and lied to.

-       Conor pushes the subject whilst Tyler insists that their dad isn’t worth knowing as he is lazy and selfish, but Conor refuses to believe him knowing that he is being biased.

-       Tyler snaps revealing that their dad is “poison”, creating the image of a monster. Conor is taken aback as Tyler snaps and tells him graphic stories of abuse during his childhood, accompanied by flashbacks.

Act 3

-       Tyler stands to leave the cafe, realising that the two have come to a stale mate and that perhaps this meeting was a bad idea.

-       As Tyler nears the door he turns to see Conor sitting there alone and apprehensive and the inner big brother in him wants to protect him from ending up as bitter and resentful as he is.

-       Tyler returns to the table and reluctantly writes their fathers address down on a napkin, explaining that he should not pursue contacting him as he would not be there to pick up the broken pieces he would inevitably become.

-       Conor shows up at Jimmy’s flat and knocks on the door. As we wait to see if the door opens, as an apology, Conor sends Tyler a text message thanking him and arranging to meet up again soon. As the door swings open, Conor introduces himself and Jimmy invites him into his home giving hope for their relationship yet.
