POCKET ROCKET RACH: MISSION TO KONA

Donation protected
I see myself as the next Lucy Charles, come so far, eyes on the top, but still so far to go, so much potential, so much more to be achieved! Having come 2nd age grouper in the 2019 IRONMAN Wales, and 20th out of 250 females, I have had a taste of what success feels like. I am more determined than ever to smash next year and achieve a qualification spot, at the Lanzarote IRONMAN, for Kona 2019.

Never one to sit idle, I have lots of other fun challenges along the way and am looking forward to competing in Ironman Lanzarote next May. Being an up and coming athlete, I struggle to raise the funds I need to compete at IRONMAN, however I love it so much I pretty much dedicate my life to the cause.

Known to my friends and fans as Pocket Rocket Rach, I am the crazy girl that is aiming to take off. One of my favourite daily activities, aside from cycling, running and being outdoors, is updating my Instagram with quirky pictures which is beginning to attract many followers. I have recently started my own page on Facebook and update my blog once a week with exciting and joyful content, that I hope improves others days as much as my own.

Strava has introduced me to many of my cycling friends with people noticing me for my segments and rides or stealing their QOM’s.

I started cycling about 3 years ago, and since then have gone from strength to the strength. My love for sport only increasing. After much encouragement from coaches and friends I embarked on a mission to triathlon. I have coached myself through the last few years and in this time have achieved many great results. These include:

Southampton Marathon 2018: 3rd Female
Sheffield Half Marathon 2018: 7th Female
Ashbourne Triathlon 2018: 3rd Female
Rother Valley Sprint triathlon 2017
Sheffield: 3rd Female and PB
Derby 10-mile road race 2017: 4th Female
Castle Howard Olympic Triathlon, 1st in age group and qualification spot for Team GB (which unfortunately I was unable to undertake this time)
Top 10 place at Sheffield 10k, just 2 weeks after IRONMAN Wales

To further my progression, I have started working with a coach, which played a monumental part in my spectacular race at IRONMAN WALES. I am looking forward to planning my race season next year and seeing what I can achieve with more structure to my training!

I also just love to explore and in the last year have spent weeks cycling & running in Lanzarote, the Lake District, the Peak District and most recently in Mallorca where I covered over 750 hilly miles in the 9 days I was there. I cover a lot of ground and it is hard not to notice me, in some cases being unexpectedly spotted while out in public.

I have encouraged so many people to undertake various sporting adventures and this excites me almost as much as doing the sport myself. I love to talk and share my passion with anyone in earshot.

Thanks,

Rachel Rutherford
