Paid maternity leave in the US is completely unheard of, with the exception of about 4 states who offer up to 12 weeks for both the mother and father to become acquainted with and establish a schedule with their newborn. Women in particular need this time to bond, recover, and rest after the trials of childbirth. The only way a woman can truly bond with her new baby is by spending those precious early moments together, getting to know each other and enjoying their time together. Motherhood is hard, or so I've heard, and I desperately believe that a mother and father need adequate time to be a family with their child before returning back to work.
I, unfortunately, do not live in a state where this is possibile. The company I work for does not offer me any sick time, vacation time, etc. This means that when the time comes (in only a few months), we will be stuck trying to provide for our new family of 3 with rent, electric, etc. This would of course be a challenge for any new parents normally, however, my current position does not pay me nearly as much as I was promised, and now, because of recent health complications, I have been put on a mandatory "medical leave" by my manager (not my decision) until I am 100% able to perform my job. I am currently suffering from a head injury, vertigo, and inner ear imbalance, which causes me to be incredibly unstable. I am hoping to gain the support of my doctors to obtain temporary disability pay to cover my time off, as I don't know when I will be 100% again, but that will only go so far.
Bill and I are incredibly humble people. We do not ask for hand outs, nor do we expect them. Unfortunately, we just have no other option at the moment, as my husband is trying to get a better paying job to better support our family during this difficult time. It hurts me deeply to see him struggle, and I know it must be hard on him to watch me be in pain.
Anything that you would be willing to donate to our cause would be highly appreciated. We will do everything in our power to pay each and every one of you back for your generosity. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and we love you all.
