The years of a girl's youth should be filled with adventure and movie outings, soccer and laughter, the mall and the playground. Susi Ventura, a fifth grade student at Longfellow School had just that type of childhood until a Leukemia diagnosis in February changed her and her family’s lives.
Susi started chemotherapy immediately after her diagnosis and was hospitalized for a month. She has since been released, but still requires treatment three days a week.
All of those adventures she used to experience are now extremely limited due to a compromised immune system. Her mom, Isela, is a single parent who has had to miss a lot of work in order to take care of Susi. Her younger brother has also been affected with the effects that the diagnosis and treatment has had on their lives.
Susi’s classmates at Longfellow School have joined together to start Team Susi to show the Ventura family that they have a huge support system and people rooting for Susi to get well.
