Me Labib, Youth Connections Rochdale, Wardleworth Community Centre Association, in conjunction with British Science Week are bringing science into the heart of our community - Wardleworth, Rochdale.
For the first time ever our community Wardleworth will be celebrating all things science. It will be inspirational and motivational for all. A day of fun and stimulation for children, family and friends.
The British Science Association believes that science should be part of - rather than set apart from - society and culture, and is owned by the wider community. British Science Association encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to engage with science, become ambassadors for science, and ultimately to be empowered to challenge and influence British Science - whether they work in science or not.
With this in mind we have planned a day, dubbed 'Fun Family Science Day.' This will entail free for all:
*Venue at Wardleworth Community Centre.
*We will have a Polestar Planetarium to see the night sky.
*An Alien moonwalk bouncy castle, perfect for kids, and with additional extra specially reinforced thick materials it will be perfect for adults to join in the fun.
*We will have a Science stand to encourage everyone to interact with e.g balls that flash when you hold in your hands. Static sticks that make objects levitate. The Van de Graff generator for hair raising fun and some selfie opportunities.
*Children will have a science party. Making their own Sherbet sweets, fizzy drinks and colorful slime. No children will leave the party empty handed. Every child will leave the party with goodie bags and a certificate with their brand new Science name.
*Our local Astronomy group will come to showcase the excellent work they do. Their main aim will be to provide information on what to look for in the night sky at any given time, and also support people with interest in Astronomy.
*We will finish the day with listening to lectures from local STEM representatives and Professors on various subjects of Science.
All of this we estimate to cost £1500. Our estimation is based on:
*Hire of local Community Centre @ £250.00
(7 hours hire of Large Hall, Small hall & Kitchen)
REDUCED from £40x7=280 (large hall) £25x7=175 (small hall) 15x7=£105 (kitchen) =£560
*Polestar Planetarium @ £250.50
(100 children & 50 adults @£1.67 per head)
*Alien Moonwalk Bouncy Castle @ £105.00
(Suitable for both adults and children. Whole day hire)
*Science Stand @ £260.00
(For 3 hours. First hour £120.00, second hour £80 and final hour £60)
*Science Party @ £309.00
(100 children - £109.00 x 20 children + £2.50 extra children)
*Local Astronomy Group @ £20.00
(Reimburse travel cost)
*Lecturers @ £200.00
(Reimburse travel costs)
*Advertisements @ £100
(Posters, banner, newspaper advertisement)
TOTAL: £1494.50
British Science Association has already awarded us £500, this will greatly help us, but to make this day happen as we have planned, we need to raise the additional £1000.
With humility and thankful heart, we would love some help from our friends, family and community members. Help us to make it a motivational, monumental, historical day. Together we can make history by being the first community in Rochdale to have an out of school science event. Also, Please help us spread the word by sharing the link of this page on social media.
