Roman's 2nd open heart surgery
Meet Roman. This sweet little boy is only 5 years old but he is about to undergo his second life-saving open heart surgery on November 11th, 2016.
When Roman was just 10 months old, he was diagnosed with grade 3 mitral valve regurgitation (severely leaky mitral valve), mitral valve stenosis (his abnormal valve didn't open properly, blocking blood flow into the main pumping chamber of his heart ) and 3 other heart defects including the atrial septal defect (a big hole in the wall between the two upper chambers of his heart).
He was only 12 months old when he had his first open heart surgery.
Fortunately, doctors were able to fix most of these defects, and physically Roman made a great recovery.
Sadly, the enormous effort his little body made to survive this ordeal had taken a toll on this brave little boy's emotional state: severe anxiety, multiple phobias, developmental delays (just to name a few). It took Roman’s mom 4 years of around the clock loving care to get him back on track. 
Roman lost his father to heart failure when he was an only one-year-old toddler. His dad passed away just a few months before Roman's first surgery. Roman's single mom has no family to help her out with two kids, and no financial means to hire help. She works hard to pay the rent and put food on the table but making the ends meet is a constant and brutal struggle. She can't afford very expensive care Roman needs.
Last Friday Roman had his annual echo test done, and his doctor got very concerned. He said Roman’s condition has seriously worsened since the last year’s checkup and suggested to schedule a second open heart surgery immediately.
After this critical surgery, Roman will not be able to attend the daycare like other children. He will begin his long recovery journey all over again – expensive tests every 2-3 months, medications, physical therapy, post- surgery emotional trauma recovery and much more. His mom cannot afford any of these.
His mom will also have to stay home to take care of him, while he recovers. She will not be able to work full time to support Roman and his older brother until Roman is fully recovered both physically and emotionally.
Please help Roman with his recovery! Please help his mom pay medical bills and other expenses she will incur while caring for Roman. This sweet little boy is smart, adorable, loving and he is his mom’s sunshine!
