Please Help Zeus - Hurt by humans, left to suffer

This sweet and gentle dog was found by the side of the road in San Antonio, TX, with his penis cut off.
On April 11th, I received a phone call from a girl asking for help for a dog she had found with his penis cut off. She reported he had been in that condition for 3-4 days without medical attention.
I drove to the address she provided and found Zeus injured and in an extreme amount of pain. I lured him into my car with a cheeseburger and took him straight to the vets office.
I have to admit that I was a little nervous driving on the interstate with this boy. He has a bit of an intimidating look as he’s large and muscular, and I knew he was scared, unfamiliar with me, and in a lot of pain. He quietly laid in the backseat, looking defeated.
When we arrived at the vets office he was all tail wags and kisses. I was a mess. How could someone hurt such a sweet, gentle, loving dog? How could someone do such a thing to ANY dog?
Zeus has now been at the vets office for one full week. The vet has confirmed that a large majority of his penis is missing, including his bulbus gland. it was a clean cut (human-inflicted), and most likely occurred during mating, given the amount that was cut off.
Zeus will now need to undergo perineal urethrostomy surgery to prevent further urinary complications. Throughout this entire process, Zeus has remained a sweet and loving boy who has won the hearts of the staff at he vets office.
We are raising money to cover medical costs. Soul Dog rescue immediately offered to help in this situation and without their help this boy would likely still be suffering immensely.
