This is our story and why I need your help. Heather and I took our son in to the hospital with the intention of signing our son in for mental health issues chest pain, lack of sleep and hearing multiple voices in his head.
It got really bad so we took him to the hospital.
We went to administration, when there we asked to see the Mental Health nurse (we were told by lots of people that she would be able to help us) and we were told yes we will let her know.
They put a band on Martin's arm and told us to go to the next station. When we got to the next station I asked to see the mental health nurse and was told, yes we will let her know that you want to see her. While nurses doing their stuff with Martin I went back to administration and asked to see the Mental Health nurse and was told, yes we will let her know. I got back to Martin just as the nurses finished doing their exam, told to wait for the doctor. An intern came instead asked a lot of questions asked Martin if he was hearing voices, the intern made eye contact with me as I was nodding and saying yes. When the intern was done he said that we have to wait and he will send in the doctor, I asked him to help us see the mental health nurse and he said that he would tell the doctor.
While we were waiting to see the doctor I went to the head nurse and told her that we really needed to talk to the mental health nurse and was told that yes we will get her for you. When I went back to Martin, the doctor was already finished seeing Martin. We were told that they could find nothing wrong with Martin and he could go home. I went to the head nurse and told her that we really needed to see the Mental Health nurse and please can you help me. She told Martin and me to sit in the hallway and she will get the Mental Health nurse for us. Time went by and no nurse. Martin was ready to go home pacing floor (because he was told by doctor he could go home), I asked him to wait a little while longer. By the time the Mental Health nurse came it was to late, Martin was on a mission to leave, so we made an appointment and left. Heather dropped me off at my house (Martin lived with me) and went for a ride with Heather and well it is up to the investigators to figure out what happened in Heather's suite that night. All I really know is Heather is deceased and Martin has been arrested under the mental health act and both son and daughter now have no mom.
No red flags raised, not even a little one or even a yellow one!
Heather and I tried so hard to get help for Martin for years and years and severely got the run around by doctors, teachers and numerous other people that we were told would be able to help.
The reason why I need or really asking for help is that I live on a Island and catching ferries to go to meetings or to see our son is costing a lot of money and also because our son was helping me by paying half the rent and bills. I do have a job, but I have to miss days for meetings or seeing our son which means very small paycheck.

Many thanks to all who donated. Wow. You never know how expensive catching ferries until you catch them days in a row. Salt Spring to Victoria n back (more then fingers can count) Salt Spring to Duncan and back (5 so far) Salt Spring to Vancouver n back (will be 2 on Sunday). You all have made it possible to be there for our son, thank you so very much.

I have a few questions that I hope will not offend anybody but will hopefully shed some light on the subject of mental health. Lots of parents are afraid to admit that their child or children have mental health issues why is that? Are these parents worried or afraid about how they look in the public eye if some one else finds out that their child or children has mental health issues? There are so many parents like us fighting for mental health help and yet we find ourselves dealing with parents who would much rather hide, run or avoid the possibility that their child/children have mental health issues, why is that? This is the year 2018, why is still a battle to get mental health help? Is government cut backs the issue?

Big huge thanks to everybody. It was with your help that I was able to keep my phone so I could talk to my son, pay ferry fare (so far 12 there n back), gas for my van, hydro and catch up on my rent. I now know where my son is and have been able to see him on the 23. but he is not where I was told he was going to be transferred to by court order. Still very much in dark about what is to happen to Martin next, like big secret. I am his dad, so what I don't get is why is it so hard to get even just a little info? More trips, phone calls, questions and where do you get an honest answer.

Wow. To try and put an update here is really hard, especially when all I want to do is yell and scream big time. Kinda scared that this might end up looking like a rant, but please do not take it as that.

But FIRST of all I would like to thank all of you for your donations, don't have enough tears and hugs to pass around to thank each and every one of you so I hope that you all will accept my deepest gratitude, my thanks, my tears and hugs here.

I still have not been able to see my son since police took him out of the hospital and put him in cells. I got to see him quite a few times when he was in the hospital, but once the police took him out that ended that. I got to see him on his court date briefly and he was behind glass. Seeing him there and not being able to speak for himself (drugged up big time) or for us to talk to Martin, hug Martin , tell him we love him was so hard, ripped me apart big time.
To have to get lawyers so that I might possibly be able to see my son, makes me think, feel that some one some where in Martin being passed around got him to sign something that makes it a lot harder. Has someone tricked Martin into signing something? Martin has a hard time reading and writing and in his mental state plus being drugged up big time (hospital meds ) makes me wonder. So many people involved and yet nobody either knows, or don't want to tell me anything about what is happening to Martin.

Phone calls, emails, messenger, many trips to Victoria, trips to Duncan are almost dead ends. But thanks to your donations it makes it a lot easier to focus my attention on Martin and making sure he gets the mental health help that he needs and for me to try and see him. Thank you all so much.
