Playin' My Respects
I am also a lover and performer of blues based music. My Rusty Wright Band CDs have achieved top ten on Billboard Blues charts as well as being nominated for Album of the Year by Vintage Guitar Magazine.
My current project titled "Playin' My Respects" is a re-interpretation of the music of bluesmen of the past. (No slight meant to the blues women of the past but I feel my gender disqualifies me from doing them justice ;-)
This will NOT be a parroting of the original songs. But a re-interpretation of the song through my own modern mind.
I am deeply researching the world that each bluesman lived in in an effort to gain insight into the motivations that brought about his musical expression. The reason being so I can blend it with my modern era mind to recreate these early era songs for a modern listener.
People today have a plethora of artistic stimulus. They are far more sophisticated listeners and viewers than ever before so I hope to "channel" these early era players to reach across time and give their music a "second bite at the apple" so to speak. My overiding idea would be "What might Son House or Charley Patton etc. have done if they could create through me using modern technology."
A companion book will be included chronicling the process of creating each track on the CD and the first 100 copies will be numbered and signed.
Your support will help me give new life to the source of the music we listen to today. The Blues is indeed the very foundation of everything from Jazz, Rock, Country and even Hip Hop, R&B and other forms of modern music. I feel it's absolutely crucial to keep this core art form alive in the modern consciousness and awaken a new generation to the passion of blues music.
The money raised will be used for the manufacture of 1000 full press CDs and 1000 companion books and associated marketing expenses.
Thanks for helping me give these great bluesmen a voice in the 21st century.
