Lucy's cataract surgery

$1,550 of $2,000 goal

Raised by 21 people in 31 months
Our story: Lucy has developed cataracts, and needs urgent surgery.
These cataracts have just appeared, we have learned they do sometimes occur in kangaroo's, and advance rapidly. The veterinary opthalmologist has advised that the earlier that surgery is performed the better the outcome. Also she is already bumping into things when hopping so we would love to get this resolved urgently. The surgeon has kindly offered a 'wildlife rate' of $2000- for the surgery.

Lucy is an 11 month old Western grey kangaroo joey, and was orphaned when her mother was hit by a car when she was around 5 months old, and 1.3kg!  We are wildlife rehabilitators and she was bought to us, we have raised her since then, bottle feeding 4 times per day...
Lucy is a sweet natured joey, everyone who meets her falls in love.  We took in another orphaned joey, Freya, to be raised together, they have a great bond.  Our aim is to raise them together then do a gradual release into the wild to join the local mob, which Lucy's mother was from.
How you can help: We will be so grateful for any donations to help us fund this surgery for Lucy asap so she can continue to develop and move towards release and living a full life.

Just to note, if any excess funds are recieved, we will ensure they go to other local joeys who may also require treatment.

Lucy's surgery was successful and she is going great!!! Last Monday was a big day; a few slow days after, then by Friday she was hopping around the big outside pen with all her old confidence and dash, YAY!! It is so awesome and amazing to see her renewed vigour!
Once again we must all thank all of you who donated, shared and supported in any way! An incredible show of love bringing a fantastic outcome !!! XXXX

Okay big news - surgery is booked for this Monday 23 Jan.!!! Thanks for all the support so far, we made the decision to book it in, and let her then keep developing... Lucy is being a brave little soul so far, has slowed down so she doesn't bump into so many things, occasionally forgets and does her excited dashes and leaps... Freya heads to her side once she crashes :/ Lucy tolerates her 2 lots of eyedrops each day (will be lots more for 2 weeks after surgery), especially with a treat of an almond to follow! Again thanks to all who have generously donated, shared and supported, all is so greatly appreciated xx
