Chris Pinkston, 40 yrs old, has been suffering from a rare genetic disease, Alport Syndrome, since childhood. Alport Syndrome causes renal failure, blindness & hearing loss. Chris currently has zero kidney function and has been on dialysis for over 5 years.
Chris was very active growing up; he loved to play baseball and football. Now at age 40, with his Alport Syndrome and the damage from long-term dialysis, he struggles to walk & often requires a cane for assistance. Alport Syndrome has stripped Chris of the majority of his adult life.
Chris has been hospitalized multiple times in the last 2 years, had bypass surgery after suffering a heart attack in early 2016, and is continually retaining fluid on his body, despite the dialysis.
In addition to his renal failure, Chris was diagnosed with Neuropathy, a disease that affects his nerves causing severe pain, a “pins & needles” sensation, numbness and weakness. The pain can often be described as stabbing or burning, often with tingling. He is in intense pain the majority of his day and struggles to get through his daily routine.
His doctors at Baylor All Saints Medical Center at Fort Worth have told him that he is in need of another life-saving kidney transplant. Funding this surgery is a monumental task since there are so many uninsured transplant-related expenses. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles, travel to and from the transplant center and relocation at the time of transplant. In addition, Chris will be on a life-time of anti-rejection medications. This is where your help and support is desperately needed. We want our friend to live a quality life, to enjoy the things that he should get to enjoy, and to live a life free from pain.
