Asheville is an oasis of personal freedoms; with a unique combination of social liberalness and personal freedoms Asheville is a haven for a group like Pink Pistols. Pink Pistols started in 2000 shortly after an article by Jonathan Rauch in Salon Magazine talked about an idea for the gay community to take control of our self-defense:
“Thirty-one states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. “

Pink Pistols believes in our RIGHT to self-defense for our sexual minority community, including but not limited to homosexual, bisexual, transexual, and polyamorous individuals. Our organization aims to allow the queer community a chance to practice and learn self-defense and concealed carry techniques in a socially safe group.
We hold monthly practice shoots on the third Sunday of every month at 3:00pm at a local range, for details check out our Facebook group, and schedule Concealed Carry Permit classes as often as we can with our next one coming up at the end of April.
We are dedicated to the legal, safe, and responsible use of firearms for self-defense of the sexual-minority community. We will help you select a firearm, acquire a permit, and receive proper training in its safe and legal use for self-defense. The more people know that members of our community may be armed, the less likely they will be to single us out for attack.
Pink Pistols is open to all sexual and relationship orientations, we welcome queer and straight shooters at every event.
