Piece Together Paula

Paula was diagnosed with end stage kidney disease in 2010 and for the past 8 years she has been going to dialysis 3 days a week. She has to be at the dialysis clinic at 5:30am on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for about a 5 hour treatment. She is only 49 years young dealing with this disease and although she stays very positive and has the mind set  to live her life like she isn't sick, the treatment has definitely made her weaker and takes a toll on her body daily. The treatment is also extremely expensive and isn't completely covered under disability so it's been impossible to stay on top of all the bills.

As a result of chronic kidney disease she has also developed mineral and bone disorder that has caused her bones to become very weak and even a little malformed. Since developing this bone disorder she has become easily injured and when she does suffer with an injury it takes her much longer to recover. Over the last year and half she's endured other minor injuries including multiple sprained ankles and several broken toes.

Well now on top of already fighting CKD - MBD, Paula took a bad tumble off a golf cart at the end of August and is now also suffering with the pain from a broken right humerus and a left achilles tendon rupture. She had to have surgery in her heel to input 2 screws and is now in a hard cast. Since her injuries are on opposite sides of her body she physically cannot walk or even pull herself up in bed. She's in a lot of pain and has a long recovery ahead of her.

Over the next 12 weeks Paula will stay in a rehab center which also is not fully covered by disability, she will need physical therapy in addition to her regular 3 days a week dialysis treatments. We will need to figure out a way for her to get to and from the clinic and how it will be funded. There will eventually be in home rehab offered when she is able to go home but that will incur additional out of pocket expenses. As a family, we hate to see our mom, daughter, sister, and cousin struggle to pay for what's easing her pain/literally keeping her alive.

We want to sincerely thank you in advance for any donation or support you can give to Paula and our family. As you now know we started this to take some of the financial burden off her shoulders but we know Paula would also appreciate any and all love, visits, calls or texts she receives. Your generosity and support is encouraging and helps Paula stay optimistic during this difficult time.
