College Programs in Prison

Donation protected
Huskies for Opportunities in Prison Education (HOPE) is a student organization at the University of Washington that promotes the increase of postsecondary education opporunities in prison.

Graduating from a college program can decrease recidivism by 72%, which not only saves our government money but creates healthier lives and communities. It is illegal in the State of Washington for any public funds to be used toward funding for postsecondary education in prison. As a result, prisoners can often only receive a college education with the help of non-profit organizations.

University Beyond Bars (UBB) is one such local organization that provides college classes at the Monroe Correctional Complex for men. Freedom Education Project Puget Sound (FEPPS) does the same at the Washington Corrections Center for Women.

From now until the end of June 2016, HOPE will be raising funds for UBB and FEPPS. All proceeds will be split evenly between these two organizations. Please help us create more opportunities for men and women in prison who are seeking to make a change in their lives. We thank you for your support and contributions!
