Phunktions Dance Co. is a competing, collegiate, hip hop team founded in 2003 at University of Maryland College Park. We are proud to respresent for the DMV dance community in a unique way through high performance quality, creative ideas, and full on entertainment. This year and moving forward, it is our goal to expand our opportunities as dancers and choreographers in our own community and beyond.
This year we are planning to travel to North Carolina for PRSM Season 2 (PEWTER) Workshops where our Artistic Director: Monique Watson and former Artistic Director: Greg David will be teaching! This will be our first out of state trip to train and become better dancers. We have been investing in the community and ourselves by hosting free classes every Thursday at UMD. We hope that you will take a moment and invest in us as we continue to build the Phamily up to become something greater than ourselves.
Last year we were able to raise $620 to travel to Philadelphia where we placed 2nd in the Prelude Philly Urban Dance Competition. Without the support of our family and friends we would not have been able to make that trip and stay in a safe environment overnight. As a collegiate team we are solely dependent on private gifts and our own campus fundraising efforts to cover all administrative costs.
We will need the funds to finalize travel plans within the next 2.5 weeks and we would be eternally grateful for any gift amount that you are able to contribute.
