Photography Mission Trip

$1,784 of $2,200 goal

Raised by 13 people in 8 months

Friends!

Back in the fall, an old friend reached out to me regarding a yearly event they held in Coimbra, Portugal. She and her husband, Michael, have been serving as missionaries in Portugal for 5 years. Each year, their ministry asks photographers from the states to come over and donate their time and skills to gift family portraits to the locals. She asked if I would be interested in a trip for early July 2018...and the quick answer was, YES!

After praying, then thinking about it a bit more logistically, I realized I would need an assistant for lighting, etc. Emeri will be a Senior this coming year, and regularly works for me, so she quickly became my travel buddy!

We are raising support for this venture as there are no offered funds available from the ministry for this event. So all the photogs that offer their services are strictly either on their own dime, or have raised support so that they can give good gifts to families in Portugal.

We'll be raising support here, but will also be brainstorming some fun ideas ie. asian dinner, bake sale, etc.

For more information on the ministry in Coimbra, here is a link to Michael and Cristi's website.
..and here is a link to my website if you'd like to see my work.

If you have any q's, please don't hesitate to ask! And thanks for reading!

Best,

Ashlee and Emeri

Hello all!

First, I want to thank you all for investing financially and in prayer for our service trip to Innovista Ireland in Dublin, and Cristi and Michael Gerecke in Coimbra, Portugal. We were blessed to be able to get to know each ministry more fully, while collaborating with them, and getting to know their community.

We first arrived in Dublin jet lagged and running on lots of espresso to serve Innovista Ireland. Their organization is based in one of the poorest areas of Downtown Dublin, which became apparent as we got into their shoot. Part of it was done in a park that we now know is rife with drug dealing, and we both had the pleasure of an Irishman trying to sell us a line of cocaine for 50 euros.

Innovista's goal is to train up Ireland's Christians in reaching their communities with the gospel through leadership training courses and various activities throughout the year. Sam Moore, our contact and director of Innovista Ireland, shared how small the Christian community was there in Dublin. It was heartbreaking, and palpable as we interacted with the locals, our air bnb host, and shop owners their ethic of eat, drink, and be merry.

Our goal there was to provide headshots and promotional photos for their website, and we reached it! We worked for about 4 hours shooting that day with models, products they use in programs, and leadership. Emeri was integral in setting up shoots creatively highlighting their promotional materials, and in holding our lighting.

Please be in prayer for the few locals who are working hard with Innovista to reach Dublin and Ireland. One of their biggest struggles is feeling so isolated with so few believers. One of the group members said they don't often meet new believers in the culture that sees no need for a savior.

We were only in Dublin for 13 hours, so after meeting up with a friend who was also in Dublin, we went straight back to the airport to head to Lisbon, then on to Coimbra.

Our 8 days in Coimbra are truly a blur as we hit the ground running! Our goals there were to photograph 15 family portraits, the church youth and community, the city, the building the Gereckes are purchasing and renovating for their work and ministry which will be a coffee shop and their home, people of the city, The Catholic Memorial at Fatima, and getting all of that edited while there.

Cristi and Micheal have lived in Coimbra for almost 10 years and have been hosting this annual family photo ministry from the start. Through the offering, they have met new families that they have invited to their weekly Bible study that they hope one day can become a church. It has slowly grown through the photo event and their deep community with the locals was so evident. Because they usually have about 5 photographers, and I was the only one this time, they decided to scale back the event and put me to work helping to show their community so those who partner with them can better see who they are ministering to and how.

We are so grateful to have been able to meet the lovely community that Cristi and Michael have poured their lives into these last 10 years. Their friendships are real and strong, and their goals are to keep pouring into them for the gospel! Please be in prayer for their family as they are about to step into a difficult season of renovation and preparing for a new business geared to serve Coimbra and share the love of Christ. They are accepting work groups in the coming year if anyone is interested in going to help with a little elbow grease! I'd love to share more about what they do with you all if you have time.

I'd love to share more of our trip, specifically about Awaken Coimbra, in person with any of you if you're interested. Thank you again for your financial and prayer support!

Would you consider donating to the service of missionaries in Dublin and Portugal? Any amount would be so helpful for this whirlwind work trip in which we will be giving away family portraits and also promotional photos and headshots for 2 ministries in 2 different countries.
