Formal Proposal for Photography Show
Title: “Bloodbuzz”
Artist: Bonnie Arbittier
What: Gallery Photography Show
When: April 2018
Where: 1906 Studio in San Antonio, TX

Artist Statement
In July 2017, Luis Parra Villanueva rescued a horse from dying in Houston, Texas. The copper-colored horse was in a pen with many other horses, and the larger horses were kicking this little one into a corner. The horse’s ribs stuck out through his infected skin, and his hooves were covered in fungus. He had lost the light in his eyes.

Luis immediately purchased him and brought him back to San Antonio, Texas, where he lives. Over the next few months, Luis invested time, care, and money into this horse, visiting him on the ranch daily and taking the best care of him.

When Luis brought this horse back to San Antonio in July, he contacted me about doing a photo project on the horse’s recovery. Since July, the light has come back into Bloodbuzz’s eyes and he runs around the ranch without a care in the world. His ribs are less noticeable through his skin. His coat has regained some shine, and his skin infections are gone. Luis sat on his back for the first time on October 22. He rode him in his first rodeo on November 19. Bloodbuzz is only expected to get better from this point forward.

My goal with this photo project is to bring awareness to the reality of animal abuse and what it really means to help an abused animal. I am going to be putting on a gallery show in April in one of the most famous arts districts in San Antonio (specifically 1906 Studio), and I am donating a large part of the proceeds from sales and donations to Habitat For Horses , a non-profit equine protection agency committed to the prevention, rescue and rehabilitation of neglected, abused and homeless equine, located in Hitchcock, Texas. I will be continuing to take photographs of Luis and Bloodbuzz until the end of February, when the show needs to be finalized. I will be exhibiting 12 large photographs showing the change that Bloodbuzz went through from July 2017 until March 2018.

Thank you so much for reading about Bloodbuzz’s journey and helping this photography project with a purpose. You can see additional images in the section “Bloodbuzz” on my website at  http://www.bonniearbittier.com/bloodbuzz/

Hi everyone!!

Firstly, thank you so much for the love and support on this project. We have raised nearly half the proceeds for the show (including donations sent to me through Venmo). I am so humbled by this process and can't wait for the show.

Also, I have reassessed the way I will be displaying in the gallery to be able to cut costs for the show itself. That way, more money can be donated to Habitat for Horses. Instead of framing, I will be mounting the photographs on gator board through a local printer, Hilmy. That has changed the final goal from $6900 to $2940 which is much more manageable.

If you are interested in buying any one of the twelve final prints, please let me know! I am taking preorders. The price is yet to be determined.

Thank you ALL! <3
