Philippines Midwifery Experience

I am currently a second year student midwife studying in Kent. As part of my degree I have the opportunity to travel abroad for my elective placement.
Those who know me well know that this is well out of my comfort zone, but, university has developed my confidence greatly and as a result I have chosen to do a two week elective placement in Iloilo in the Philippines in April 2019. Here I will be able to see how maternity services are provided without the resources that we have available in the UK and also experience differences in maternity care.
This experience will definitely be an eye opener and will teach me many skills and ways to improve resourcefulness that I hope to bring back to my studies and practice in the UK.
I will be placed for 37.5 hours a week (including reflection time), in a maternity setting and I am very much looking forward to not only seeing how they provide maternity services but also learning more about culture and language in the Philippines. As part of this experience I will also be provided with lessons in the local language and will be able to meet other healthcare students and professions who are also participating in this experience.
This is a once in a lifetime experience, however, it does not come with out quite a hefty fee. In order to partake in this experience I will need to raise around £2000 to help cover: the cost of the trip, insurance and flights. This amount would need to be raised by January 2019, by which I will need to pay for the fees of the trip.
It is very unlikely that I will ever be able to take this opportunity in the future so I would be forever grateful for any donations to help fund my trip. No words will ever explain how much this experience will mean to me, and in return I promise I will make a lovely montage of our trip photos so you can see the amazing things that I got up to.
