BD's 500 Miles for PGiM
When I was growing up in my leafy suburban zip code, I had choices. I had a softball team to join, a park that was safe to play at, a swimming club to swim at, a basketball hoop outside, a bike to get around on, and many neighbors to play with every day. Today's suburban kids almost have too many choices...playing on not 1 but 3 teams at a time during any given season, joining after-school clubs and activities, with parents worn ragged by hectic schedules.
Let's switch zip codes to Philadelphia. I asked kids in our after-school program what they do in the summer. The answer? "Nothing. We aren't allowed to leave the house. It's not safe to be hanging around outside." I asked a girl in our Rec Center fitness program if she had any sports at her school. The answer? "No. There's no teams at all," I looked at many schools in Philadelphia where our younger kids go - no sports teams, after-school programs are cut, gym class is cut to once a week and that's if they have it at all.
Here's a sad fact:
Females from lower economic backgrounds and females of color engage less in physical activity, have less access to sport and physical fitness programs, and suffer negative health consequences as a result.

Philly Girls in Motion was built to give girls in Philly an opportunity to do these things, before we even knew how sorely needed it was.
This GoFundMe campaign is to support and expand our work. We deliver fitness and sports programs to girls in Philadelphia through after-school programs and community-based programs. Help us get these girls moving, let them be part of a team, and build their confidence.
For this campaign, I am going to #commit2fit and for every $100 we raise, I will do a mile either on foot, in the pool, or on the bike. If we hit our goal, it will be 250 miles total, but I'll double down on that and do 500 miles if we hit or surpass our goal. I'll complete these miles in the months of July and August. Anyone is welcome to join me!
Thank you for considering this campaign. Our girls will benefit greatly through the support you give us, as we'll be able to add fitness programs, sports and the people to teach the girls how to be healthy and fit!
