Our father lost his home to a fire on June 3, 2018. He's ok. It's devastating. It was the family home. Our great-grandmother raised her children there, as did my parents years later. Although changes were made to it, the home has been a fixture in the community (Inglewood, Nova Scotia) for almost 200 years.  Tough to think about for us all, and my Dad especially. He had lived there for about 35 years...but he's ok and we all know that's the main thing. Although he does have a home to go to, it is not his own. He is staying with family. There isn't much of anything that was salvageable.  There was no insurance, and my father is retired. Big Boy (Dad's dog) is ok, but Missy (Dad's cat) did not survive.
Of course we have no idea what the cost of clean-up or rebuilding would be, or if rebuilding is even an option. We know the land is where his heart is, and I'm sure Dad wants to rebuild there. My Dad's a quiet guy who normally wouldn't ask for help, so his children are asking for him. We thank-you all for your support. Please spread the word.

Today is the one year anniversary of the fire that took my father's house. What an incredible year it's been.

After it became apparent that none of the house could be saved, a few options were looked into -including rebuilding, himself, and shipping container homes- while we tried to secure more funding. Dad never slowed down. Although he was supposed to have retired right before the fire, he ended up maintaining full time(+) hours for the first several months. When funding was secured, and the paperwork finalized, construction on Dad's new home commenced in December. Even through the cold days of winter, it didn't take long to get things rolling. Thanks to everyone's prayer and support, I'm very pleased to say that Dad was given the keys to his home in March. Just over 9 months after the fire.

Approximately $20 Thousand was raised through a community auction, private donations, church donations, and GoFundMe. As well, there were offers of service and physical donations such as -housing my Dad, physical labor, storage space, household goods.

Throughout all of this, Dad has maintained his strength; he didn't give up once. He continues getting settled in, getting organized, and going through his belongings which have been in storage.

There is a lot of landscaping to be done. The majority of the trees which once littered the lawn had to be taken down, and the lawn itself got quite torn up by the heavy equipment...but that's a project for this summer. Dad's just happy to be home. :)

Thank-you to everyone who has supported my father and my family throughout this ordeal. Thank-you for your prayers, your help. Thank-you to the builders, for working so efficiently. Thank-you to everyone who had a hand in getting my father home again.

** Unfortunately Dad's dog, BigBoy, did not get to return home with Dad. It was discovered in November that he had cancer. He passed away, with Dad by his side.

Hi everyone! I just want to ask you to share my Gofundme page again...and please ask your friends to share. :) My Dad's home was demolished a couple of weeks after the fire. Not even the foundation could be saved, so he has to start completely from scratch...Eventually. It seems like everything's a struggle. There really isn't much in the way of government funding for something like losing one's home. We're looking into things, but nothing is guaranteed, it's a big waiting game...waiting for copies of papers that burned up in order to wait for applications to be processed...wait, wait, wait. -And the situation looks quite similar to the way it looked in June. Everything costs money...demolishing the house, hauling it away, and dumping it, turning off the water, permits, applications, filling in the hole where our home used to be, and then leveling that...and that's before building anything. Really though...and please believe me when I tell you, because I'm trying to be -not sweary about it...This whole situation just sucks.

I hope something good happens soon. Dad's 70th birthday is next month. I want him to have a happy birthday.

Prayers are welcome too. <3 and don't for get to share the link and tweet it and stuff.

It was sad watching the house go. We couldn't save any of the original beams, as we'd hoped. Some of it was buried where the home used to sit, so that was fitting. So many memories...
Thank-you for all of your support thus far. The next step has just begun. Please continue to share!
