On August 16, 2019 our family was blindsided by a horrible accident. That afternoon, my wife Petra, mother of two beautiful children, was following her daily routine of walking to pick up her 7-year-old son from the school bus stop. After waiting for a green light, she stepped onto the protected pedestrian crossing, where a large pickup truck making a turn to failed to see her, striking and dragging her over 70 feet.
The resulting injuries were severe. Both of Petra’s lungs were punctured and collapsed; she suffered ten broken ribs, two fractured vertebrae, lacerations to her spleen, kidneys, liver, and acute bruising to her internal organs. Road burns, so severe as to be treated as third-degree burns, covered her entire back and left arm. To increase Petra’s chance of survival, she was airlifted between hospitals. Unable to breathe on her own, Petra was put into a medical coma and paralysis for 11 days, dependent on a ventilator to keep her alive.
Petra is a very strong-willed woman who does not give up easily. She is a fighter, and this is a fight she is going to push through. While she has made great progress throughout the three weeks she has spent in the ICU, the road to recovery will take months if not years. Though this ordeal has been the toughest our family has ever faced, we are here fighting with her every step of the way and we ask that you do the same with us.
Each day, the medical bills are getting higher and higher and our family will be unable to pay them on our own. While the driver was clearly at fault, his liability coverage was meager. Our own family’s medical insurance will not nearly be able to cover the massive bills. Any donation or share of this page will be much appreciated by my family

16. Srpna byla naše rodina zasažena strašnou nehodou.
To odpoledne, moje manželka Petra, matka dvou krásných dětí, šla jako každý den, aby vyzvedla na školní autobusové zastávce svého sedmiletého syna. Na chráněném přechodu pro chodce čekala na zelené světlo a když naskočilo, tak šla správně po přechodu, a v polovině přechodu ji srazila dodávka.
Zranění byla velmi vážná. Obě Petřiny plíce byly propíchnuty a zhmožďeny, utrpěla deset zlomených žeber, dva zlomené obratle, tržné rány sleziny, ledviny, jater a akutní zhmožďeniny na vnitřních orgánech. Odřeniny ze silnice byly tak těžké, že se s nimi zachází jako s popáleninami 3 stupně. Zasažena byla celá záda a levá ruka. Aby lékaři zvýšili šanci na přežití, musela být převezena vrtulníkem mezi dvěma nemocnicemi. Vzhledem k tomu, že Petra nemohla dýchat sama, byla uvedena do umělého spánku a paralyzovaná na 11 dní, a připojená na ventilátor, který ji udržoval naživu.
Petra má velmi silnou vůli, a snadno se nevzdává. Je to bojovnice, která bude dál bojovat. Zatímco během tří týdnů, které strávila na JIP, učinila velký pokrok, cesta k uzdravení bude trvat měsíce, ne-li roky.
Ačkoliv toto utrpení bylo nejtěžší, jakému naše rodina kdy čelila, bojujeme s ní na každém kroku a prosíme vás abyste udělali totéž.
