Peru: Solidarity with flood victims
Donation protected
Many cities in Peru are experiencing heavy rains, flash-floods and mudslides due to El Niño. Extreme climate conditions have already caused the death of 75 people and have left many other thousands injured. Countless schools, roads, bridges and communities have been affected, and water has been rationed or cut in several cities. Thousands of families have lost their homes and are now living on the streets with limited supplies of water, food, and medicine available. The government has declared a state of emergency in many regions.
We are aiming to fundraise money destined to buy drinking water, hygiene kits, medicines, and food to support people who have been affected. We are partnering with Proyecto Emergencia, a local foundation, which is leading efforts on the ground by delivering donations of food, bottled water, medicines, cleaning supplies, tents, and clothes. We are also working with a group of volunteers who are assembling and distributing survival packs, which include a 5-people waterproof tent, first aid kits, lanterns, and bottled water. Both groups of volunteers are working in situ in affected districts in cities like Lima, Piura, and Trujillo.
Who are we?
We are Jhader Aguad and Andrea Kvietok, two Peruvian students at Macalester College.
How the funds will be spent?
The money fundraised will go directly to Peru to support the two groups of volunteers that will buy and distribute water, food, medicines, and help with the reconstruction of affected areas.
Here are some news articles that describe the situation in Peru right now, but please feel free to contact Andrea Kvietok or Jhader Aguad, two Peruvian college students currently living in the United States for questions or further information:
