Genesis Be's campaign for People Not Things

Tax deductible
I'm raising 25k to help me launch my debut art exhibit, People Not Things, in Los Angeles March 1st and NYC August 2nd! The Tag Gallery in LA and The Bishop Gallery in Brooklyn have been so generous to host my debut exhibit.

Your contribution will go to shipping, framing and installing paintings, screen rentals for audiovisual display and other logistics. People Not Things debuts March 1 in LA and Aug 2nd in NYC. Please help make my vision a reality!

This production took two years to complete, 18 paintings, 5 music videos, speaking footage,  a musical album, documentary snippets from Moral Courage Project and more... I'm ready to present it to the world!

You can donate directly to my fiscal sponsor, The Middle Project Inc, and your tax-deductible contribution will help me debut my art exhibit in Los Angeles and New York City! Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.

People Not Things (PNT) is a traveling multidisciplinary art exhibit created by me, Genesis Be. PNT uses my story of deconstructing my unconscious bias as a tool to inspire others to challenge their own. I am an artist and activist from Biloxi, MS. I use Hip-Hop and visual art to humanize issues and theatrical protest to raise awareness around issues of gender, racial & religious bias. I am the granddaughter of civil rights activist Rev. Clyde Briggs who was threatened and terrorized by the Klan months before his mysterious death at age 42. Our family believes he was poisoned due to his efforts to empower Black citizens to vote in Franklin County and his work in education reform. I am the daughter of activist and author Ishmael Be, who was 6 years old when the Klan shot up his childhood home with six children inside, 7 years old at the time of his father’s death. I’ve been creating art that explores my generational trauma, gender identity and exploitation in religion since I was a little girl, releasing 3 original studio albums before the age of 18. This exhibit follows my journey navigating my own sexuality and political observations as a queer woman of color raised Muslim in the deep South by interracial parents.

More information about The Middle Project Inc: The Middle Project commits to pursuing the common good from a progressive perspective, motivated by a sense of justice and concern for those on the margins: the poor, the working poor, and those who are marginalized by race, class, or gender/sexual injustice.
