Penny Needs a New Patella!

Penny had a rough start when she was a puppy. Shortly after getting past worms and kennel cough, she threw her knee out of joint when she was just three or four months old. I woke up to her shivering in pain in her crate.
The vet easily snapped her kneecap back into place but warned that she had a medical condition called "luxating patella." It's a common but treatable and non-life-threatening condition in small dogs. Her kneecap has been slipping in and out of the sleeve where it belongs for nine years. As the vet warned me back then, there might be a day later in life where it no longer fixes itself.
Unfortunately, that day has come: since just before Christmas, Penny has been lame on her right leg. Yesterday, an orthopedic surgeon confirmed that her luxating patella will not heal on its own.
Not only that, but she might have also torn her meniscus and cruciate ligament -- in other words, her doggie ACL.
According to her double-doctorate degree veterinarian, Dr. Andrew E. Kyles , at BluePearl Veterinary Clinic, a top-rated facility, orthopedic surgery is the only option. And because this is New York, where the best care money can buy means spending a lot of money , the base cost for her surgery is estimated at $2,665.38.
Worse, that number soars to $4,089.35 if it turns out that her meniscus and cruciate ligament are indeed torn; they won't know until they have her on the operating table.
This is where I need your help-- and as you probably know, I never ask for help (certainly, not money) for anything. Yesterday, her x-rays alone were $686.
Luckily, I have a high-limit credit card thanks to Capital One's incompetence, so I have been able to put down the deposit for her surgery on March 31.
The truth is, I'll figure it out with or without help, like I always do, so don't worry. I want to see her sprinting again. But if you're a friend, family member, or fan who's able to donate even $5 or $10 to Pen Pen's knee surgery, it would me allay the debt I've so successfully avoided in all these years as a student.
