Our Stars are funny and fierce and curious and playful. They are learning and exploring and testing and growing.
They are kids.
And like any kid, they just want to find their place, join their friends and experience the joyful freedom that comes with a summer bursting with promise. Indeed, they are so much more than their diagnosis.
It is this indomitable spirit that our local Illinois Chapter of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF) is honoring with our 30-day Pedal it Forward fundraising campaign.
Through your online donations, we hope to raise $25,000 to support the Illinois Chapter Butterfly Fund and provide custom-made bicycles to a child with a brain tumor.
Each donation will be matched, thanks to the support of Wintrust Bank®, helping us reach our Pedal it Forward goal of $50,000.
A few of our Stars in Chicagoland are unable to enjoy the simple summertime pleasure of riding a bike because a regular two-wheel bike doesn’t provide the stability they need. And, due to strained budgets from caring for a sick child, their family cannot afford the extra expense of a specially designed three-wheel bike.
With every $5,000 raised, we will provide one custom-made bicycle to a child with a brain tumor – and – provide parents much needed support through the Butterfly Fund...
The Butterfly Fund provides emergency financial assistance to families of children in treatment at Chicago's Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital. Ongoing medical bills and the rigors of their child’s everyday needs already financially stress these families.
The Butterfly Fund helps during particularly difficult times. It pays for things as simple, yet necessary, as parking and hotels, food, gas — travel expenses families must pay out of pocket when they bring their children hundreds of miles to Chicago. They can also help with some medical supplies not covered by insurance.
Our local mission is our national mission: Care. Cure. Thrive.
The PBTF is the largest nonprofit solely dedicated to eliminating the challenges of childhood brain tumors. Since 1984, we have provided resources to the families of children and teens impacted by this disease, along with critical funding to researchers focused on finding innovative new treatments.
