Syrian Refugee Youth Football

Donation protected
I am working in collaboration with Relief and Reconciliation for Syria as a volunteer, as the main organiser for a youth football tournament in the Northern Akkar region of Lebanon for Syrian Refugees; "The Peace Cup".  This event will take place in September 2018.

The Syrian conflict is now 7 years old and has seen over 7 million Syrians internally displaced and over 5 million becoming refugees according to the UNHCR (United Nations Refugee Agency). Nearly one million of these refugees are currently in Lebanon. Fleeing from your country because of War and living in a Refugee camp is something that I have never had to worry about but for these people it is a reality.  This football tournament is a break from the norm for children whose daily life is one of poverty and uncertainty. It is a glimpse of hope and a chance to engage in a multi cultural event.

Where is the money going?

I will be giving the child refugees a chance to collaborate in designing the kits (50 minimum) which they will be wearing and turn their ideas in to reality with production of custom kits through Move Forwards Sportwear. Funds will go towards general equipment such as balls, shin pads and the hope of providing each child with their own pair of boots. Hiring facilities, travel, food and drinks. I hope that this will benefit the children taking part in the event and the families as a whole.  I will need the funds by 1st August 2018.

Breakdown of Pricing Estimation (£):
Equipment: 50 Kits: 1,000
Travel expenditures: 400
Food and Beverages: 100
Boots: 1,000

About Me: I am from Somerset, England  and am currently an MA student in Reconciliation and Peacebuilding. I have always had a passion for helping people from conflict areas, especially the children. This developed as a child when I would see the Rwandan and Bosnian genocides enfold on the news. I always thrived on using my imagination as a child, whether it was designing my own teams football kits to organising wrestling events. I want to let children less fortunate than myself showcase their creativity in a way that I was able to as a child. If I surpass my goal, the remaining donations will go to Relief and Reconciliation for Syria.

I am in contact with Relief & Reconciliation for Syria via Skype and Email and will be joining them at their Peace Centre in Lebanon in September to set up and deliver this event.

Relief & Reconciliation for Syria AISBL is an independent non-profit organisation under Belgian law that is based upon the individual membership of dedicated men and women who serve as unpaid volunteers for our cause. They count more than 450 members from around the world who are working for peace and justice in Syria and the wider region. They follow a specific methodology, combining conflict transformation with humanitarian aid under the co-deciding authority of local communities.

Thanks for checking this out and making a difference. I will be updating this page with regular progress reports.
