La Fanzine was established 3 years ago as a publication specialized in LGBTIQ+ issues positioned within the Guatemalan cultural scene, with the objective of providing a a dignified and liberated platform free from stigmas for the LGBTIQ+ artistic community and its allies.

We believe that we can affect change through art and raise awareness in the population by supporting Guatemalan artists, offering them tools and spaces for expression, and in the process empowering them and rendering them more visible. We want to normalize dialogue on LGBTIQ+ issue. Little by little we have been reaching more and more people looking for inspiration; and we would like the first ports of call to be local and current, to then be able to expand solidly and reach new horizons in an authentic and free way. We know that art opens minds and inculcates critical thinking that is of so much benefit to our communities at a regional level.

This year we are organizing a series of cultural events to render visible artists working on LGBTIQ+ issues, including poetry nights, film festivals, concerts, and visual art exhibition. We will also be present in the Pride March that will take place in July, and where we will participate with our float and activities on the streets.

La Fanzine nace en Guatemala hace tres años como una publicación especializada en temas LGBTIQ+ dentro de la escena cultural guatemalteca, con el anhelo de proveer una plataforma digna y libre de estigmas para la comunidad artística LGBTIQ y sus aliados.

Creemos que podemos hacer cambios a través del arte, sensibilizando a la población, apoyando a los artistas guatemaltecos, dándoles herramientas y espacios de expresión, permitiendo su empoderamiento y su visibilización. Queremos convencionalizar los diálogos sobre temas LGBTIQ+. Poco a poco hemos ido llegando a más gente que necesita inspiración; deseamos que las primeras referencias que busquen sean locales e inmediatas, para luego poder expandirse sólidamente hacia otros horizontes de manera auténtica y libre. Sabemos que el arte abre mentes y forja ese pensamiento crítico que tanto bien le hace a nuestras sociedades regionalmente.

Este año estamos organizando una serie de eventos culturales para la visibilización de artistas que trabajen temas LGBTIQ+ como noches de poesía, festivales de cine, conciertos, exposiciones de artes visuales y la presencia en la Marcha en las calles.
