Pay It Forward Roanoke Valley

Hello Friends,

I trust that you are doing well!

As the Director for the small 501(c)3 Non-Profit Blessing Bag Program  here in Roanoke, I often times get a lot of requests for people here that are in need.  Many times the request is small and I'm able to help with providing a bag, other times I can't becuase the need is too great, I have to turn to the community for help since our program doesn't have the funds for larger needs.

In the last 6 months we helped Rosie, a homeless woman here in Roanoke get back on her feet by raising $850 for her hotel stay while she had pneumonia.

We also helped Angie, a volunteer here at Blessing Bags, we raised $3,000 after her husband passed away Christmas day last month. Those funds went to help her and her two children at least cover some bills and stay afloat.

Recently, Ariel came to us and told us about a homeless man named Karrit, he lives in his van here in the Roanoke Valley with his dog.

You may have seen him on the Roanoke Checkpoints Facebook Page  last month last month asking for cash, panhandling.

Well, since that post from late December, he's had an issue with his van not running, at all. The solenoid went out ( we think) and he's been unable to start his van and keep it running.

It's going to be 35 degrees tonight and
he will be sleeping with no heat.

He lives in the van with his dog who is his best friend and long time companion of 6 years, Gur, they use the van's engine to keep warm on winter nights and he's been using it to drive for finding gainful employement. A homeless man that WANTs to work, thats not something you see everyday.

Our program has started the GFM page here in hopes that the Roanoke Community will some some compassion here to help Karrit with being able to fix his van so he can get it operating again, have heat for him and his pup and a small cushion to keep for emergencies like this one in the future.

Also, if there is a mechanic in the area that would be willing to donate some time to help with the repairs or part instead of funding that would be appreciated
too.  It's an 88 Econoline with the 351 cu in (5.8 L) Windsor V8 in it. Seems like the starter starter, solenoid or a combination of those type of issues.

If you can help him out, please do.

If you can't help,  PLEASE send a message here of support and share with your friends on social media. You can also follow along on our FB page .

Thanks!
