My name is Kendra Henderson,
I have created this gofundme page to support my mom, JoAnne Johnson on her journey to receive a double lung transplant.
My mom has a genetic condition (Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency) that over time, has destroyed nearly all of her lung tissue and made it nearly impossible for her to breathe. At less than 14% of normal lung function, my mom has been placed on a transplant list in Toronto Ontario.
Being on the transplant list has required her and my father to move over 700km from their home to downtown Toronto.
The proceeds from this page will be used to support the high cost of living in downtown Toronto while my mom awaits her double lung transplant. The duration of the wait is unknown as we cannot predict when lungs will be available.
My parents anticipated and did their best to prepare for the high cost of living in downtown Toronto. However, after six months of waiting for a phone call, they are realizing that the wait for two healthy lungs could take a lot longer than what they had hoped.
At this point, my parents are trying their best to stay positive during this extremely stressful and scary waiting game. They are too proud to ask others for money, but would be very appreciative of any offers sent their way.
For the last fifteen years, my mom's condition has destroyed her ability to breathe. This has forced her to live her life as a spectator, unable to physically participate in her own life. She not only requires this operation to stay alive, but deserves it to live and take part in her life, instead of watching it pass her by. You only get one chance at life, and I would like to see my mother fulfill her's.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated. I invite you to follow your funds as you see the change in my mom's health. She plans to use her new lungs to go from a stationary spectator of life to participating in the transplant games, and completing marathons as well as giving back to the transplant program.
We look forward to seeing my mom out live herself, when she recieves her gift of life and is finally able to do something we all take for granted... breathe.
