Paul and Karla Fischenich

Donation protected
On Friday, May 3rd Paul and Karla Fischenich were involved in a terrible car accident outside of Byron, MN. Within five minutes of the accident happening there were off duty medical personal that stopped to help. We are so thankful for the doctor, physicians assistant, nurses, and the EMT that pulled over to help Paul and Karla. They jumped into action instantly and were able to help stabilize Karla until the ambulance and paramedics could arrive.  They were both taken by ambulance to St. Mary's hospital.

Paul sustained a severe concussion and a broken clavicle (collar bone), as well as severe whip lash and other bumps and bruises. Paul has been discharged from the hospital and will be cared for by family until he is fully back on his feet. It will be a long road to a total and full recovery for Paul.

Karla sustained injuries to her face, spine, neck, and arm. The night of the accident Karla needed to undergo surgery on the upper left side of her face. She had seven surgeons from the ophthalmology (eye), ENT (ear, nose, throat), trauma, and facial reconstruction teams perform eight hours of surgery. Karla has multiple fractures in the upper vertebrae of her spine. She also has a broken upper humorous (upper arm bone).

Karla is currently at St. Mary's hospital. As of now, Karla does not have vision in her left eye. Karla will have to wear a Minerva Brace (a brace that goes from around her neck down to her stomach) until the fractures in her upper vertebrae can heal. Karla also needs to keep her left arm immobilized while the fracture in her upper arm heals. Karla will have to go through many hours of rehab with different teams of doctors before she is able to join us at home. When she is released from the rehab center and finally able to join us at home she will have continued medical services for the foreseeable future.

Paul and Karla are such giving people. They would never ask for anything even when going through a situation like this. Even though they have not asked for help, I think they are some of the most deserving people in the world. I do not want them to have to worry about what things will cost as they are trying to heal.

Funds raised will go to things such as:
- helping with current medical bills and medical bills in the future
- helping to replace Paul's truck that was totaled in the crash
- if Karla is able to drive again, helping to buy her a safer vehicle than the one she has currently

Thank you for all of the kindness, prayers, good thoughts, and support you have given the Fischenich Family.
