My Mom's 3rd Battle with Cancer!!

Hello Everyone! Thanks for coming to our campaign. That’s me and my mom in the picture-she's one of the strongest women I know. She’s often one of the first people to step up and volunteer for something ….Now it’s my turn to do something for her. So here is her story.....

As we all know, battling cancer takes an emotional, as well as a financial toll. My mom had breast cancer in 2004 (lumpectomy, radiation, 5 years of tamoxifen). I was young, so don’t remember the battles she faced. She was doing good until 2015, when she was diagnosed with uterine cancer (radical hysterectomy and radiation). In 2015 she also had rotator cuff surgery (2 tears in her left rotator).

She is still paying off medical bills from 2015, and now she is fighting her THIRD cancer battle, as after a routine mammogram, followed by a biopsy in June2017, she was diagnosed with breast cancer again. She is working on her "treatment plan", and we will update you here.

My mom has done so much for me during my  life. She has volunteered countless hours to PTA, Scouts, and every other activity I have been involved in. She has done everything possible to be sure I become the best person I can be. So now it is my turn to do something for her.

With the help of my dad and one of my mom’s friends, we have set up this GoFundMe page for my Mom, to help offset her medical costs, and help reduce her financial worries . While my mom has insurance through her full-time job, there is a high out of pocket maximum that she has to meet. And since her recent diagnosis, she took a leave from her part-time job to focus on her health.

So any support you can give would be appreciated.  We will keep you updated on how she is doing.

And my mom told me to add this:

To all the women reading this (or to the husbands, boyfriends, fathers, sons, brothers, etc of a female), remember to get your mammograms and paps as often as recommended, as an early diagnosis has the best outcome!

Still trying to figure out how to use the site, but wanted to post some photos. Can't figure out a way, except for adding here:

The “GoFundMe page” picture is of me and Noah at the 2014 Fairfield Relay for Life, when I was Chairperson of the Survivor Reception.  It was a lot of work (and a lot of fun), and, I think, a very successful reception.

I have participated in Relay for Life many, many times – the first time in the early 90’s, at the Shelton Relay for Life event (before Fairfield had one). And I have walked many, many years since then.

Relay 2014 Survivor Lap with me, Anna, Lisa, and Mark – what a fun “survivor lap” we had!!

Noah and I on his deep sea fishing trip (a Christmas gift) – what a fabulous relaxing trip that was, the first real vacation we had taken since Sept. 2002!!! Glad we were able to do that, before this new storm hit!  And look, I’m wearing an American Cancer Society baseball cap!!

I did the Susan G. Komen “Race for the Cure” in Hartford with several friends sometime after my 2004 diagnosis (I guess before Facebook and digital cameras, since I have no digital pictures handy!)

2010 “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk with my friend Patty, her pup, Noah, and I at Sherwood Island.

I also got Noah involved with St. Baldrick’s, a non-profit that raises funds to help find cures for childhood cancer. 2017 was Noah’s 10th year, where he became a “Knight Commander of the Bald Table”!!
