Pathways - Washington DC 2017

Donation protected
Hello,

We are raising funds to take 30 of our high school students to Washington, DC for an advanced, exploratory study of African American Culture and Literature.

Our goal is to connect African and African American culture, history and literature with Ann Arbor students. We believe our students will respond better to classroom tasks when collaborated with invaluable and challenging out-of class enrichment. Most of our students have never travelled outside of Michigan and many of our students are classified as underprivileged and/or disadvantaged youth due to several factors. One of them being that 70% of our students are free and reduced lunch eligible. This will be our school's first trip ever to Washington, DC.

In class, students will read culturally relevant novels and will be able to further broaden their mindsets with and understanding of what it means to be African American in Ann Arbor and in America. Through visiting museums, viewing artifacts and touring a Historically Black College and University in Washington DC, students will connect concepts and grow academically while gaining a stronger appreciation for diversity.

We are raising the fund for the following:
Charter Bus and Transportation
Hotel Stay
Meals
Books

Thank you for your time and support!
