Putnam Area Robotics Team 3492

We are the Putnam Area Robotics Team, known in the FIRST robotics community as PARTs 3492. Here at PARTs, we strive to encourage academic advancement, team membership, and gracious professionalism. We consider ourselves a family forged from the characteristics of ingenuity, determination, and curiosity. Our personal mission is to enlighten and better the lives of both the student body and everyday members of the community as well as teach and inspire the younger generation.

Each year we are graciously sponsored by our partnering companies; Toyota Motor Manufacturing WV, The Robert C. Byrd Institute, Putnam County Schools, Putnam Career and Technical Center, American Electric Power, Home Depot, Pardee Rescources Company, and the supportive families of our team members. PARTs has also procured team funding through independent fundraising by hosting many profit sharing events with our local McDonalds and Applebee’s. Other team fundraisers include working with locally owned businesses for candles, t-shirts, and even a chocolate covered Easter Egg sale. We enjoy thinking outside the box, finding new and innovative ways to keep local businesses and potential sponsors interested and excited about our team.

Even with this amazing support it still takes a little more for a team so big to manage the "daily little things". You know, those items we would need in an emergency situation while we are working such as parts, metal for fabrication, wiring, power/hand tools or even  just to order in pizzas and feed the team on an unexpectedly late night during build season. Chairman's group will often need to print many pages for presentations. A team printer is available but we need often to replace paper and ink. USB drives must be purchased for award submissions, sponsorship packets and for presentations. This year, since so many parents invested in very nice business suits and dresses for the students outreach activities we are hoping to procure funding to offset the families costs of ordering new sets shirts for our team members.

To help make the decision easier, please understand that as a 501(c)3 organization 100% of all donations will be utilized efficiently and effectively to support the Robotics Team.

As a team of six years, PARTs has actively participated in multiple competitive events. Together, PARTs has managed to attend seven Regional FIRST Robotics Regionals, three Worlds FIRST Robotics Championships, and have recently entered in a VEX competition. These events have impressed characteristics on all members of our team on a personal level; FIRST has aided in teaching high school level students responsibility, real world applications and connections, and most importantly, gracious professionalism towards both teammates and other teams.

Although our demographic in Putnam County is less than 1% of Asian/Pacific Islander, Native American, African American, Indian/Middle Eastern and Hispanic, we at PARTs pride ourselves in our diverse membership consisting of 20% minorities and typically 20 to 30% female team members. We also encourage and value the membership of students and mentors with intellectual and physical disabilities. We are a group small in numbers, but we boast a large presence and impact within our community.

On February 2, 2016, Senate Bill 20 was passed in recognition of The Putnam Area Robotics Team for our commitment to science, engineering and technology skills as well as our diligent participation as student advisers in the legislative process. The students and mentors were honored along with representatives from our supporting partners Toyota Motor Manufacturing WV and the Robert C. Byrd Institute. Senate President Bill Cole presented the team with a signed copy of our WV State Senate Resolution.

We are so grateful to our community and supporters!

Please come to see us at our OPEN HOUSE on February 23rd, 2016 at the Putnam Career and Technical Center in Eleanore, WV from 6pm to 8 pm
