Welcome to my fundraising campaign! My name is Keri Chavarria and I am a 5th grade teacher in a Title 1 elementary school in Glendale, Arizona.
As a public school teacher, we are subjected to year after year of more and more budget cuts. Although salary increases are being considered across the state of Arizona, our school budget saw an overall DECREASE of over $40,000!!
We teachers are doing everything we can and are even purchasing supplies and resources using our own money but this is something we just can't do without your help!
So here's the deal:
I am hoping to raise $3,300 that will go directly to helping all of our 4th and 5th grade students succeed in reading.
Here's how I'd spend the money:
Renaissance Accelerated Reader computer program.
Why:
-The program is differentiated to meet the reading needs of ALL students.
-The program acknowledges individual student growth in reading. Students are thrilled when their independent reading levels increase.
-It is a motivator for students who are in special education or who are English language learners. These struggling readers achieve success in reading because they are reading books at their individual appropriate level. The program builds on success. The more success students achieve the more proficient independent readers they become.
-It also provides acceleration in reading for our gifted students. Using this program, we can make sure these proficient readers are reading books that are at their individual appropriate level.
-The program provides individual accountability for ALL students.
For every book each student reads, there is a brief comprehension assessment with immediate feedback. Once the test ends they know their score, they can review the questions they missed, and they can see what their average comprehension is.
-Ensures students are reading books that are not too hard or too easy.
