House Destroyed-Tom/Susie Futak

Dearest family, friends and friends of friends,

After many years of health and other personal challenges, Tom & Susie Futak were recently able to purchase their first home, in Paradise, CA. They officially moved in the weekend of Oct. 13 & 14. They were so excited, just as we all were for them. Susie had already lined up a job in the area, and Tom found the perfect part-time job for a retiree.

This past weekend, they were back in the Bay Area for a party when Susie became ill and was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. She and Tom were allowed to return to their new home on Nov. 7 so Susie could continue recuperating. Then, on the morning after their return, tragedy struck again in the form of the fast-moving "Camp Fire" that raged toward Paradise and their new home.


They were forced to evacuate with only the clothes on their backs, with Susie still in her slippers and pajamas.  They just learned on Sunday from a contractor they know in Paradise that their home is gone. All that remains is a red trailer they used to tow Tom's motorcycle.

Their lives are forever changed. They have nothing left but their car and some donated clothes. They are back in the Bay Area with family now, and probably won't be able to return to sort through what's left for weeks. Their future is, needless to say, uncertain.

All of us who know and love Tom & Susie are devastated. They are hard-working people with an always positive attitude, even in the most dire of situations. We alone can only make a dent in their loss and our hope for this page is to help build back some financial hope for their future. No matter how small, any donation of funds to help them would be an incredible gift.
