Paradise Fire Hero

Donation protected
This is James...a developmentally disabled man who saved the life of 86 year-old Jimmy in the Paradise fire. They lived together for 40 years and James used a garbage can to push Jimmy as far as he could as propane tanks exploded around him.  James refused to leave Jimmy behind. When the wheels on the garbage can melted and James could no longer push him, he began flashing the SOS signal with a flashlight and they were lucky enough to be rescued by nearby firefighters.

Although they have lost everything they owned James keeps a smile on his face and continues to try to help others.

I met James in a grocery store and he told me his story.  He and Jimmy were living in a hotel in Roseville with plans only through December 2 (dropped off by the VA). After that they did not know what they were going to do and they assumed they would be homeless.  I could not let this happen.  With the help of an angel on earth named Teresa, we have met their basic medical, mental and practical needs (FEMA paperwork, mail forwarding, food, cell phones, medication refills etc). We were able to keep them in the hotel and have recently purchased them a mobile home in Grass Valley. James used to walk 40 miles a week in Paradise visiting businesses and neighbors...he was well known and well loved. Grass Valley will offer a similar environment for him and Jimmy to rebuild their lives.

We are asking for donations to help them with basic necessities to put their life back together.  We will use the funds to have repairs done to the mobile home and furnish it.  We will also use the funds to set them up with gift cards for local grocery stores, clothing and ongoing medical care.

James is a real life hero and deserves a hand up from all that he has survived.
