With a heavy heart I'm sad to be the one to be making this page.  All my friends know that I'm the last one to ask for help but the first to reach out to others in times of need.  My name is Kalon Hansen and although Jody and I don't share our last name, she is my mothers first born to a previous marriage and I've always regarded her as my sister.  On the 26th of October my sister was walking home from shopping with her 12yr old son Joel when she collapsed from a heart murmur.  She suffered from a condition called Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which is an enlargement of the heart.  Basically her heart couldn't receive electrical signals as efficiently and as a result her heart raced to 400bpm and she stopped completely and fell into a coma.  Her son raced to the aid of neighbors to call emergency services but unfortunately paramedics didn't reach her until 30mins later.  They managed to start her heart again but due to the lack of blood flow and oxygen to the brain permanent brain damage was imminent, to what extent we didn't know.  Over the course of that week being in an induced coma we were staying positive and hopeful but as they reduced those meds and allowed her to wake it became clearly apparent that the trauma was significant.  Although her eyes were open and she would occasionally twitch she lacked all cognitive ability.  She developed an infection in the lungs and her brain lacked the ability to regulate her body temperature.  This along with the neurologists report indicated that she was never going to recover.  We were given three options...1. She spends the rest of her life in hospital in a vegetative state with no chance of recovery 2. we take her off life off antibiotics and she passes away in a week or two or 3. we take her off antibiotics and a feeding tube and she passes away quicker.  Sadly more complications arose and option 1 wasn't available anymore. When the choice was made on the 6th of November at 3pm to ease her pain peacefully we were told we had 2-3 days to say our goodbyes. Sadly more complications came about overnight and at 3:15am on the 7th of November my sister passed away and by doing so left behind her 12yr old son, Joel.

Although my families relationship and my own was difficult at times with Jody we always helped wherever possible.  We loved her as a mother, a father and a brother.  She meant the world to me and she is my only sibling and the only sister i will ever have. I will think of her everyday, in the music i know she loved an in the eyes of her son.

Death is just an open door.  I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I, and you are you.  Whatever we were to each other, that we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed, at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was, let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner, all is well.

The funds raised from this page are to help pay for the funeral costs that are estimated to be at 6-10k.  There was no life insurance policy and this has to be covered by my parents who are both on the verge of retirement and are now in the position of raising another child.  As well as funeral costs, I hope to generate enough money to setup as trust fund in Joels name to secure him the best chance of success in life for the future.  The funeral date hasn't been set yet but the sooner the required amount is made the better idea we will have as to what kind of service we will be able to provide for her and Joel. I will be in charge of the final expenses and ensuring that the money is put to use exactly as intended.
