First POP, then POOP... now POMP.

The fearless visionary behind such organizations as the Philly Orchard Project (POP) and Proud of Organic Philadelphia (POOP) is in need of some support after he had a stroke the night of Monday, January 7th.

For those of you who might not know of Paul Glover, he has dedicated his whole life dreaming of solutions to society's most daunting problems -- and more impressively, implementing these ideas tangibly in the form of community- and city-scaled organizations. The irony, then, is not lost upon us that the man who spent his time developing the infrastructures for health care cooperatives and a Patch Adams-style free clinic now requires money-intensive medical care-- two systems he sought to replace with more equitable, beautiful alternatives. (If you'd like to check out his work, you can find it all on http://paulglover.org/ .)

What a magnificent brain, indeed.  If you are able, Pals Organizing Money for Paul (POMP) would be grateful for any contribution you can make to help cover the costs of Paul's medical care with the hopes that relieving the stress of this financial burden will allow for him to focus on healing.  Please keep posted to this channel and his Facebook for updates as non-monetary needs arise, too.

For transparency, please know this money will be held by Claudia Raab, friend and neighbor to Paul. Check(s) will be written to cover costs accrued from the hospital, rehab facility, and if we have funds remaining, for the resources needed upon release.  Thanks for your contribution!

Apologies for the lapse in updates.

Paul is well, if not a bit cooped up. His vision and memory are still a bit wonky, which is quite disorienting for him when he's on his own. Visits and calls mean a lot. The comfort and mental stimulation work wonders in reorienting him to time, space, and other realities, at least temporarily. I feel as though I see progress, slowly but surely.

Thanks again for all of your support. We will be using the funds to ensure Paul receives consistent attention and engagement, though we're still determining which routes to take to achieve that. Until then, please do give him a ring or pay him a visit... he is in room 334 in the Bishop White Lodge at Cathedral Village's Care Pointe. I'll try to find the direct number, but you can also call their main line to get connected to his room. Gratitude to all. If anyone would like more information, look me up on Facebook, or use the GoFundMe messaging option.

We're going on a month since Paul's stroke... There has been an incredible wave of donations recently, for which I would like to thank you all for... longevity of a campaign like this is an unexpected, incredible, beautiful thing and serves as a testament to Paul's contribution to this world.

Paul will be moved within a week to Cathedral Village, where he will be living and receiving therapy for the foreseeable future. For more information, please visit this site:

https://www.presbyterianseniorliving.org/cathedral-village

His short term memory seems to have taken a toll, his vision is still out, and otherwise he is just going with the flow as he has accepted that he doesn't have much choice. He remains gleeful in hearing about how you are doing, being reminded of what you're involved with, etc... It's our job to help remind him that he still has much to contribute and listen to his insights and stories. What is clear is that it will be a long haul until he is back on his feet as an independent human, which is why this monetary support is so helpful.

Additionally, if anyone has anything to donate to a silent auction for the Weaver's Way fundraiser that I mentioned in the previous update, please let me know!

Finally, some folks have asked about sending checks. We are trying to figure out the best way to house this money -- we weren't expecting such an outpouring and are now reconsidering how to best hold it as the bills come in. So I will let you know once we figure out the details.

Thank you all again, so very much.

Paul is now at Moss Rehab at Elkins Park (just north of Philly) undergoing a physical therapy regiment. He gets a bit knackered from it and I think visits really help with morale. His memory is a bit spotty, but he's always eager for stimulating conversation and reminders that will help him fill in some gaps. Visiting hours at Moss are from 9am to 9pm every day.

Also, Weaver's Way Coop is hosting a benefit for Paul on Sunday, February 17th at the Mermaid Inn in Chestnut Hill. There will be live music and a cash bar. I look forward to meeting you all!
