Art & Education on Public Spaces

Resilience through the years – one of the largest public art and education tools in the country state!

Above is an original artwork titled Resilience by J. Pierre This rendering draws from New Orleans past, present, and future. We want to integrate all that speaks to the soul of New Orleans; our music, second lines, social clubs, historical figures, traveling along the river, shipping and receiving, historical events, legal and governmental proceedings, the Native Americans and Mardi Gras Indians. Finally, I'm hoping that the arches that are built into the floodwall near Jackson Ave. & Josephine St. could provide a view to a well-known doorway around the world and our state.
Mission: To utilize public murals as a medium to educate and empower local youth.
Vision: Create a safe and positive place for visual artists to express themselves, without fear of reprisal, for decades to come.
Goals: Carry on the traditions built from the rich culture and history of our great city. We are looking to create murals that are educational in nature around this great city of New Orleans.  
Location: The culminating project is approximately 1.5 mile stretch mural along the floodwall of Tchoupitoulas Street, extending from the former Jackson Avenue Ferry location (near WalMart and Josephine Street) up river to 9th Street.
What we need: To accomplish this, we need funds to; 1) Pay artist; 2) Provide police protection and/or traffic control when necessary, 3)USACE approved painting medium, admin cost, and other materials and logistics for the mural(s).  An itemized budget is available upon request.  
New Orleans International Muralists (NOIM) - DeeJay Pate and J. Pierre strive to incorporate art, education, and history to inspire and educate the public in New Orleans and beyond. NOIM has formed partnerships with multiple resident artists, middle and high school art teachers, and visual art students from surrounding universities who have all expressed a deep and passionate interest in doing public murals. Future Focus: When this project is successful, we'll be looking to extend it down to the Bywater, the Lower 9th ward, N.O. East, Gentilly, Lakeview, Terrebonne Parish and other locations where art could be visible to citizens and visitors of these great Louisiana communities we call home.
***As we expand, we hope to continue this project in local communities; therefore, if we reach our goal, some of the funds will be used to create education packets to share with the communities in which we'll do public murals around the Greater New Orleans Area. Additionally, there will be a published document to share around the city, state, and the world.***
